God, that sounds amazing.

Don't you bozos tell us Neal can't sing anymore, either that was really good even live.

And perry shows great poise, confidence and respect with sharing the stage w/ another singer out front (not behind Rolie's accostomed Hammond) and the results are a fantastic duet.

Good post, much appreciated.

Now see THIS is why they need to release some of that Departure tour footage that's squirreled away - moments like THAT should not be kept from the deserving public. Those set lists had at least 3 songs with shared vocals... in fact, that was the last tour where they did that (I mean the duets, not trading off like SA/JSS did with Deen). There are so many stellar moments that just disappeared from the live shows after that tour... and after Rolie left. They gotta share those!!

(I also notice that only after Rolie left, Perry stopped dressing like that... Image coincidence?)

For Journey, from about '77 on up all the tours have at least one pro shot show as far as I know. Some are on Japanese boots, etc.

But this show is one of the best. Talk about a band in its prime. As good as the '81 Houston is revered by people, I think this show is better. The harmonies are great, and I think Perry is more effortless here than in later times. What's amazing is that this has NO overdubs. All live. Check out the other songs from that show posted by the same guy. All the same quality. I'm no Perry sycophant and I love Styx, but this is about as flawless a performance you can have.

Neal may not have the best voice, but back then they were a three lead singer band (Neal getting the odd song). Although the Mr. Green Jeans look doesn't work for me lol

What also strikes me is how annoying Neal's guitar tone and playing are now vs. then. His tone had more body to it then, and he was more "tasteful" onstage in his note choices and placement.

No, not really, although the pants aren't that offensive on their own (or at least with the white tux) as they are paired up with those horrible shirts. Maybe all those shirts were borrowed from Rolie? Maybe that's why they all disappeared when he did?  He took his toys, and his clothes, and went home.

But I do agree with you on the rest of that. Those early shows were the best. I don't know how many of the songs from that show are actually on YouTube but get yourselves the dvd if you don't have it. It has a long (and seriously entertaining!!) set list.

True that! Not a damn thing wrong with those green jeans. I'm laughing my head off here, I think we just proved JoePa's point. Right away we go to Perry's green jeans, but I think Styxcollector was actually talking about Schon's overralls. I think Mr. Green Jeans was a character on Captain Kangaroo or some kids show like that.

I actually like Neal's vocals on that one.
