You're amazing dude. I've never seen a teenager with such a kick ass taste in music like you have (except for maybe Phen). I think you were born like 20 years too late. Lucky for you though - enjoy your youth. It slips away before you know it.

Haha, Phen and I talk on MySpace all the time about music. She really does have an amazing taste, she's wildly creative too!

Thanks for the compliments dude... yeah, I really think I was born 20 years too late. It's almost like I live the 70s and 80s vicariously through my parents, constantly hounding them for stories about their concert experiences and such.

I'm doing my best to enjoy my youth, but unfortunately the time is coming soon where I have to get a full time job and enter the "real world."

....The best part about "the real world," though, is getting more money to buy more guitars, concert tickets, CDs, and rockin' fine outfits. 8)

It seems that Arnel is coming in a beat or two ahead of where he should be singing on numerous songs. In several instances you could hear the band compensate for him by cutting off part of a measure to avoid crashing the song completely. They are obviously all pros and did a great job at this - so much that many people probably never even noticed the timing issues.

I realize that Arnel is probably unfamiliar with a lot of the classic Journey songs that most of us know by heart. Hopefully he will be able to get to know the songs better and correct the timing problems. However, he has been singing Faithfully for years with The Zoo Band, and he had a timing issue with it on the Vegas boot. I can't help but wonder if he has enough of the other instruments coming through in his in-ear monitors? If not, they need to correct that problem. I realize that they can overdub studio vocals onto the live DVD, but it's going to take some editing to fix the timing issues. This is probably why they re-played several of the songs at the end of the Las Vegas show for the live DVD.

He removed his in ear monitors a few songs in at the first Chile concert and seemed to get better thereafter. Both Cain and Schon seemed to be experiencing technical issues as well. That being said he was very, very early during part of Only the Young.

ya watch LTS with cain beating on the keyboard yelling...pretty amusing

Keep rocking that guitar and maybe someday you can live off it. Or at least have fun playing in clubs on the weekends! Thinking about my upcoming weekend band gigs has helped me through many a challenging work week.

Have her get a green card and you two can start a band together... like Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo. She's got a good voice and probaby has great stage presence judging by her videos. However, she thinks it's a joke when people tell her she should be singing in a band. I don't get that. She has made around 100 singing videos but says she doesn't want to be a singer - WTF? That's like me making 100 videos of me playing the drums and then saying I don't want to be a drummer.

Maybe you can talk her into it.

If our freaking drummer stops flaking, my band could be gig-ready within a month. Unfortunately the other guys don't wanna progress much beyond being a classic rock covers band, but hey, as long as I get to play some tunes and keep up on things, I'm happy.

A band with me and Phen in it would be ridiculously..... smoooooth. She worships Steely Dan and I listen to more Toto than should be legally allowed... I can feel the yacht rock already.

I'm doing rather well for myself on the bass but I've reached a bit of a plateau on the six-string. I can do cowboy chords and very basic scale runs alright, but I have difficulty mastering barre chords and power chords. Once I get those down I think I'll do a lot better for myself on the guitar...

Thats because they are playing along with a click track that has Keyboards and background vocals already piped in.They have been doing it for years.Arnel is used to playing live with live musicians,so if you fuck up you can cover each other and blend it and no one would know, when youare playing with a click track there is no room for error. Steve A had problems with it also .Its almost like not being live. Alot of bands do it.

I didn't hear a timing issue with OTY

Postby ttango1 » Mon Mar 10, 2008 2:46 pm

I was in Row H that puts 85 feet from Arnel and the guys and I didn't hear a timing issue on the Vegas PH show. In Chile, you can see Neal walk to the center to cue him on the 2nd verse. I didn't see that here. I will say this though, I'm a staunch supporter of the new singer(It's pretty obvious) and since I was close(really close, not gold circle but really close) enough to see their faces, you can see in Ross' & Jon's eyes that when Arnel hits that first bar on time, they smile in a nudge, wink...got it. It's a work-in-progress but I can tell you 7000 fans new and not-so-new and young(yeah saw kids in there) and old, the guy 2 seats down from me was probably in his late 60's and well...those guys on stage-THEY WAILED AND THEY DID IT WELL!!!!

Those of diametrically-opposed opinions gotta go check it out for themselves....there's a vibe and it's fricken' electric and it can be found in a town near you at a Journey concert with this new lead singer.
