The song structure is very similar with these songs, but as someone who used to play both of them...with the exception of a few areas, the keys and feel of the keys are VERY different. Took me a while to feel comfortable with Message Of Love. I really love both songs though!

Yah, no real comparison, totally different songs. Look...if you really dig you can see "Journey" written all over any "Journey" song.

It practically does already. I know because I did it myself. The songs are virtually interchangeable. Much more so than MOL vs. SW.

That being said, I always felt, right off the bat, Message of Love was "inspired" by Separate Ways. I think they squeaked by on that one, but there's NO excuse for the blatant knock off of BGTY. Guarantee you, some morning show Howard Stern wannabe is going to have this brought to his attention and embarrass the shit out of Neal and Jon.

I saw the similarities from the beginning... they are very different songs, but it's obvious they wanted to go for something "familiar" in the sound (like the break right before the guitar solo -- very much like "Separate Ways"). I've noticed a lot of bands lately on their comeback albums going for familiarity in the sound -- the first song on the last Loverboy album was instantly familiar to the ear, because it felt like a rework of earlier material -- but it worked! Same with a few songs on Rick Springfield's "A.S.D.A.", and I can hear it definitely in one of the new ASIA tracks -- it has elements of both "Heat of the Moment" and "Only Time Will Tell". I have nothing against this approach if a band has been away for so long -- it helps bring back the old love for the music when you hear these tunes.

LOL.. Helps if they don't botch the timing... Another little fun thing I've done before is sing "A little ditty.. 'bout Jack and Diane" right after the first few strums of FireHouse's "Don't Treat Me Bad". Totally fools people at first, but there ain't any room for error.

When I was in the band our singer would do that EXACT same thing...except we played "don't treat me bad" acoustically...that was always a fun song to sing..
