Postby Monstrock » Sun Mar 16, 2008 3:37 am

Wow! Arnel used to sing covers for Heart and Cheap Trick. Now these bands are opening for him in the 2008 US Summer Tour. Here are the YT samples of his amazing voice singing Heart and Cheap Tricks covers with his former band Zoo.

Dude, we've heard every youtube from the past. He sings both of these as well as the singers do now. Cheap Trash doesn't even play The Flame for some reason. They're obviously too cool.

BZZZT thanks for playing.

They did it at the show I saw last year where they opened for Squeeze. I was surprised they did it.

St. John, sorry dude, I just signed up here in MR. I've been a Journey fan before, you know during Perry days and I was blown away by Arnel when I saw his Youtube clips in Chile and Vegas. Now I'm back with Journey. I can't get enough of Arnel, been surfing YT and Journey for days now. I gotta them in the tour this year.

Actually his version of Hearts (Alone) is one of my favorite on his YT video. And also his Survivor and Stone Temple Pilots version are one of the best.

Many Cheap Trick fans don't like "The Flame", sounds like some Journey fans we know who despise "Open Arms."

But Journey plays the song at every show. They don't think they're "too cool for the room" and distance themselves from the song that arguably made them the most money.

Although not an AP fan, I thought Alone was quite powerful. Even had slight Heart sound in part of the vocals.

OMG! I'm really stunned with this guy. His voice is like a chameleon. How could he sound like Steve Perry, Robert Plant, Bon Jovi and so many others? His pipes is really a one in a million. Good thing Neal got him.

I actually thought his cover of "The Flame" was exceptional. That track really shows the guy's range off. Oddly enough, he seems to have a "rock voice" in parts of that song, which is strange for a song that's a lower tempo track. This dude can flat out sing.

If he sounds great in a standard club PA. How much more in a controlled studio with Kevin Shirley? Man, can't wait for the new Journey CD!!!

Er, no. It's not the worst version I've ever heard, but I wouldn't pay to see it.

Nice flubs on the lyrics, too! The band was mediocre at best - I"m surprised they attempted the album intro.

"I'm Kilrah! Kilrah!" ahahaha

Now their version of "Rosanna" isn't bad.

Then give back the tons of money they made off of it. If not, they should shut the fuck up and play what the fans want to hear. Then again, most of their filthy fans probably don't want to hear it.

Good observation Vladan. That's what I've noticed the most about all of Arnel's covers. He sounds sooooo much like the original lead singer (even when it's a woman, which is frightening) on all of his covers. I also think "Alone" is a VERY difficult song to sing, when those high notes kick in. Ann Wilson is a MONSTER vocalist, and anyone who can match her, has my utmost respect!

I'm not sure why you always feel the need to spew your anti Cheap Trick sentiments every chance you get, but you should at least get the facts straight.
First off, they do indeed play "The Flame" live. Not at EVERY concert they ever do, but it still does get mixed into the set list. Cheap Trick regularly changes up their setlist from tour to tour to keep it different and fresh. "The Flame" while a big radio hit, was not written by the band so in fact it did NOT make them all their money as you suggested. Their record label at the time was forcing the band to record songs from outside songwriters. Therefore they never embraced the tune as they would have if it was done by choice.
Also, most of the "die-hard" Cheap Trick fans have heard them do that song many, many times over the last 20 years and would actually prefer to hear something else in it's place.

All I know is, whenever the Trick comes to town, whatever the setlist may be, they have never disappointed me. They are a great live band with an excellent and highly under-rated catalog that goes far beyond their handful of hit singles.

Robin Zander rules! Long live Cheap Trick!!!

The only time I know of Arnel singing any Cheap Trick is during The Zoo band days. Before that, he didn't do Cheap Trick tunes himself, backup vocals yes but lead no.

Yeah, YouTube vids of The Zoo have been posted on here just about too many times for sure. I was happy to see them for the first few days but it got old really fast. I hear you about posting stuff on this board, it's a very active board and if your not monitoring it constantly, stuff will be posted by others and you won't know it and you'll post it again. If it's a hot topic your reposting, you'll definitely find out about it. I've done it myself and I've seen other's do it to.

Personally, I avoid watching any of the YouTube The Zoo vids anymore. I'm pretty much at that point with the Chile concerts as well. I'm only pretty much interested to see stuff I've not yet seen before, as I'm sure most everyone else feels as well.

Thanks mate. Yeah Ann Wilson is a gun, totally sexy voice she has, and I just love Heart - a guilty pleasure! haha :)

Yeah Arnel appears to be able to cover anything in almost exact tone, style, range, and he does it the same as well. Certainly all the songs he does sing are hard songs, non are easy tunes, so Arnel is certainly an advanced vocalist, a singer at the top of his game.
