Both of those are great artists. Mullins was a real stickler for accountability and for not watering down the Gospel in Christian music.

I have one of Rich Mullins' CDs -- haven't listened to it in a while.

Rich Mullins "Songs" is one I listen to VERY often. Let Mercy Lead is a song I dedicate to my children as they grow up. I'll probably have Travis sing it to the kids at their graduation banquet at church, but I may not be able to be in the sanctuary during it, it tears me up to hear Rich sing it to his own child.

In high school I got into Petra some too..but still not as hard as Stryper.
When I lived in New York City in 1985..a couple friends of mine worked at Radio City Music Hall and Amy Grant and Rich Mullins were playing. I went because they hooked me up even though it was mellow..it wasn't as mellow as some can get.
That was my first intro to Rich Mullins. After the show my friends gave me some casettes..one of which was Rich Mullins..I believe his debut..I still like a couple of songs off of it.
At least Michael W Smith came out with some stuff that wasn't totally sleep Christian music..but no one rocked for Christ in that perfect regular rock way like Stryper. To this day..still unreal lyrics and music. Still blows my mind away.
Stryper though never got any Christian radio play because they either were to hard or most thought they were fake/a gimic.
My point was to comment on Rich Mullins and I rambled on as usual..yes..he left us too soon and had some songs that were pretty good for that style.
I still haven't found anyone who rocks like Stryper that I like..but as far as the mellower goes today..I have like a few from Philipps, Craig and Dean and 4 Hymn, and Casting Crowns, DC Talk, Michael Sweet had a ton of great solo stuff too.

It's crazy..I always wanted to..and still do..and I can never figure out why..

Stryper man..they just flat out period had the exact sound on how I like my rock to sound. Then the vocals to the words Michael/they wrote..I couldn't even have thought up what I wanted it to sound like..and yet they nailed it..I still today and blown away and in awe at what they created..
When I play them and don't tell anyone who it is..they are blown away..it's really sad that the word STRYPER leaves such a bad funny taste in so many peoples mouths because they were/are very talented and it's true rock.
When they were really, really hot..I just really was into how rock sounded at that time..so it sealed the deal.
I have a ton of Holy Soldeir stuff that I have recieved over the yeares in trade and I just can't get into it and wish I knew why..because I would like to enjoy other Christina rock artist..

I remember when I saw her in concert here a few years back, she'd mentioned she'd just gotten married. Funny story -- I already had great seats to the show, and when I got there, someone offered me front row tickets -- he'd bought enough for a group and had some no-shows, I guess, and was just giving them away! They were FRONT and CENTER and I literally had the absolute BEST SEATS in the entire venue! Just me and Jaci.... That was a great show! At some point I took the two tickets I originally had, which were something like 11th row, and went and gave them to a mother and son that were sitting way back in the stands. Wanted to pay it forward...

I've never thought that he had all that great of a voice. I'll agree that "Secret Ambition" is a great song, though. Probably my favorite of his.

I'm really into The Newsboys, And David Crowder. Michael W. Smith is amazing live, saw him at Creation Fest 05, huge christian concert in Pennsylvania. Sort of a christian Woodstock. Newsboys stole the show one night, If you wanna check out an amazing tenor, try David Phelps. Insanely good.
