OT: Winger "Live" DVD

Postby Rip Rokken » Fri Apr 25, 2008 12:02 am

Just got this yesterday along with my other discs from Amazon, and popped it in last night. Great show to a smaller venue, and killer musicianship. Proggie will really love Reb Beach's work here, and I wasn't really familiar with newer guitarist Jon Roth before -- he's KILLER! They give him plenty of quality axe-time, and his blues jam solo is outstanding!

Of the new tunes from IV, they play "Your Great Escape", "Generica" (excellent extended instrumental follows), and "Right Up Ahead". Can't wait to watch the whole things from beginning to end.

Can't wait to see this.

Extended instrumental on Generica? If it's anything like the little jam on the end of the studio version, I'll be Wingin' all night!

Rip,

I couldn't agree with you more on the musicianship. The music is absolutely top-notch! Anyone here who doesn't think Winger are kick-ass musicians can take a leap off the nearest bridge! With that said, I've gotta rip Winger on one thing...stage presence! It is completely lacking in this video.

If you want to pop this dvd in, and catch some of the best music around it's awesome. I did have a hard time watching them at times though. Just kinda boring.

PULL is their best!

IV is their second best, get it if you don't have it.

Agreed -- PULL is incredible. Totally in a different vein from the first two albums, and also nothing like IV style wise. I absolutely love PULL, song for song. I'm sure you can pick up a copy cheap somewhere, and can probably preview it on the web before you buy.

I can understand. It does seem strange not to see them running around in Spandex, doing the splits and stuff. I'm guessing it's because it was a smaller stage, and also that they are just... well... older now. :)

Now your talking. Winger kick ass, Pull is a monster a must have. DVD is awesome flawless except for a laid back performance. Checkout DVD " In the heart of the young " tour 1991 ( if you can find it ) for over the top quality and performance 10 +++++

Love Kips Solo work too, new CD out May 9th can't wait.

back in 1990 when i was listening to winger a lot of their music reminded me of journey in different ways.i had the first two albums by them and they are a very good band i thought got a very bad break when grunge came along and then beavis and butthead made jokes about them.i heard the tour they were on instantly hit the skids in '92 for pull after all the bad publicity which they definitely did not deserve.there were other bands who deserved to be picked on way more than these guys and i think they broke up for a good while not long after this stuff took place.looks like winger got the last laugh so where are beavis and butthead and the grunge scene today while winger is still kicking ass.....
