OT--San Diego, CA Info Needed

Hey Gang, I'm taking my family to San Diego this June and need some info on what part of town to stay in, a decent, but not too pricey hotel, etc. Bear in mind that I have three daughters, so I'd like to stay somewhere safe without having to stay a the Hyatt Regency. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Will you have a car? do you want to be right on the beach? within 5 miles? I'd say stay away from linda vista(low income) and pacific beach(young crowd, no parking ,lots of fights) .Theres a lot of hotel /motels in mission valley right off the 8 only a couple miles from the airport, that seems to be a nicer area , close to the mall ,chargers stadium,and close to mission beach(just a couple miles), also Sea world is right there as well as the san diego zoo(all within about 5 miles of the airport. i've seen some hotels down there advertising $60-65 a night but havent used any yet so i couldn't give you any ideas on quality.

I'll recommend Embassy Suites Downtown San Diego. Very nice hotel, fully cooked breakfast included, and very spacious rooms to accommodate the whole family. And close to beach and conveniently located to all major attractions in San Diego. It's a little bit pricey than regular hotels but considering all these conveniences, it's really worth it. It literally places you a few minutes from Sea World, The San Diego Zoo, Downtown and the beach.

If you specified more of what kind of experience you want to have, that could help. They have lots of things to do such as a Ghosts and Gravestones tour to hanging out at the Children's Museum to lounging on a rooftop bar watching the planes come in for final approach.

This is a great place to stay with kids. Close to the beach, Sea World,

The Double Tree Golf Resort is pretty nice, comfortable and not too pricey!

I would say Mission Valley-there's an area called Hotel Circle-would be a good bet. There's a little bit of every type of hotel there, and it's convenient to the beach, Sea World, the Zoo-which is in Balboa Park, downtown (Petco Park ballpark), Old Town, HOOTERS, lol, etc. You would still need a car, but all those places are very easy to get to from there.

I have a travel agent here that proposed the Baha Resort Hotel--now, it looks very cool on the web site, but seems a little pricey. If I could stay under $100 a night, it'd help. We'll be renting a vehicle, so we can drive wherever. The kids will want to go to the Zoo, but we have Sea World of San Antonio, so we've done that several times. I'd love to go to Old Town and the beach, of course. No Hooters, wifey and daughters with me!!!!

I just got back from there

I used Hotwire.Com and got a hotel in the Mission Bay area (3-star) fairly cheap.
We actually stayed in a Holiday Inn on Sports Arena Drive. It wasn't bad at all, had
a nice restraunt attached where kids 9 & under ate free and it wasn't in a shitty part of town.
It was a 10 minute drive to Sea World, 20 minutes (tops) to the Zoo and 20 minutes (tops)
to the Gas Lamp District (great restraunts, bars and shopping).

Trust me, use Hotwire.com.
Hell, I gotta a full-size rental w/unlimited mileage thru them for $$11/day!

PS - If you stay near Sports Arena Drive there is an AMAZING Barbeque jooint right
across the street from the holiday inn we stayed at. I think it was called
"Phil's Bar-B-Q". I HIGHLY reccomend it for a lunch or dinner one night

Yes, it's Phil's. They just moved there recently. They've been bragged about for years in this town, but their old location was in the gay part of town so I never quite made it there. One of those places on my list!

Theres 3 phil's barbecues in san diego, only one of them is in hillcrest.

Actually we were about the same distance between Mission Beach and Mission Bay. You can see the fireworks at Sea World at night (they're really pretty reflecting off the bay), and there's not as much of the party crowd in that area.

For things to do... go to Seaport Village and eat at Kansas City Barbecue (it's the joint from Top Gun), drive up to Mt. Soledad (or have the atheists gotten their way and had the cross taken down? ), and go to Old Town for some great Mexican food.

Kansas City BBQ and Old Town are two of my favorite places. K C BBQ has the COLDEST beer in town! And it's a nice walk from there to the ballpark.
