SJ, I never like to call anyone's fan credentials into question, but how can any Journey fan not like Patiently?
Just from a historical standpoint, you must pay the song props.

That is, for me at least, prolly the quintessential Perry/Schon pairing.

Truth be told, I'm generally not a huge fan of anything vocally from Perry pre-Escape. That is strictly vocally speaking, though. Some of the musical arrangements with Rolie were mind blowing. I love Perry's voice on Escape and especially on Frontiers.

Earlier St. John threw down against Winds of March.

Baffling.

I don't take pills, and I've seen the effects of Xanax on a few of my friends when they drink. They get fucking mush mouth and I fuck with them terribly.

I use the "who's cryin now" clip as an example of how much these re-records PALE in comparison to the originals.

From what I've heard, the performances by the entire band are cold, lifeless and by the numbers. There's zero heart in any of them. Sure, they're technically recorded with superior equipment, but the artistry, the heart, the emotion that went into the originals isn't there. The missing ingredient is Perry, not just on vocals, but behind the scenes "bleeding" over the creation and production, infusing that sense of cinema, telling the story of what the song is saying.

There's absolutely no Perry in there and I mean that on all levels.

I don't see that at all. In fact, without Perry on hand to edit down his solos Schon has lost much of the individuality and emotion in his playing. He shows off a lot more than he used to though. I'll give him that.

I'm sorry I didn't use the word instrumentation instead of the word musically but you seem to be the only one here who "misunderstood" my meaning.

Well, Saint John understood your meaning but most other people think you're on crack.

I listened to a couple of clips but I have decided to wait and listen to the whole record when it comes out. I've listened to clips of songs in the past and got a bad read from them. I need to hear the whole song to make a good decision on a song. I also like to experience the AOR start to finish too. I guess that's why I HATE listening to cd's on random play. I just can't do it. I'm looking forward to listening to the whole record, start to finish.

Here's the quote you empty-headed fuck:

"I'm even looking forward to hearing the dirty 11 for the first time in a long time, I expect them to sound better than the originals musically and Arnel sounds impressive."

The use of the word "and" clearly shows that he's separating the the mucsic from the vocals. A third grade refresher class in context clues might be in order. You're one stupid motherfucker. Your attempt to sabotage his post was bullshit and was called out as such. Quit making yourself look more and more stupid.

Dug it back up? I replied to NMT's post...which he wrote only a few hours ago...peddling this absurd paranoid fantasy that he has been framed in some way. The fact is...I've accepted that NMT was referring to the instrumental performance of the band but I think even this opinion - or 'expectation' as he puts it - is bizarre.

NMT says that the band are rocking harder than ever - but even this statement doesn't bear up to ten seconds of scrutiny. I don't hear a single clip that suggests that the band are rocking harder than they did on Escape or on much of Frontiers. The only dfference I can tell is that Schon is widdling around on the fretboard more frantically than he used to. I guess that sounds more 'rocking' in a generic, metalish sort of way - so maybe that's what NMT meant.

Enjoy the band now by all means - and I'm hoping to do just that. But let's not kid ourselves that the band are in ANY WAY as good as they used to be a quarter of a century ago.

I agree that nothing will touch Escape or Frontiers...that would be nearly impossible. Perhaps he meant that the updated versions of the songs are musically (meaning just the instruments, Matty  ) rocking harder. Just a thought.

I knew what he meant about being "better musically" but the "rocking harder" part has me looking like the chick in the shower in "Psycho."
