I know that pic looks funny, but McCain really can't lift his arms far above that.
Why he's hugging a guy whose campaign smeared his family in 2000 is what really stands out.

You are sweet, Barb, but you're completely full of shit on this one. I know a lot of liberals and Dems and conservatives and Republicans. NOT ONE PERSON I KNOW ever "celebrated" Reagan or Snow or Specter or Kennedy. This is an ugly statement, and I'm getting a little tired of some people on this board making sweeping generalizations like this. I don't think RWF meant to cause harm with his statement, although it was inappropriate and in bad taste.

So YOUR guy makes this statement, but it's the "libs" who celebrate death? Give it a rest already.

No, she's not full of shit at all. She's 100% on the mark. It certainly doesn't represent every liberal but there was a lot of ill will out there for Tony Snow at the time. I also saw nasty remarks towards Reagan on this board, making fun of his having Alzheimer's. That's a tough one for me, since my Grandfather suffered from that before he passed away.

Liberals do the same kind of generalization. TNC has equated conservatives with being racist, myself included, on more than one occasion. There's not a racist bone in my body. Never has been. Never will be.

I live in the SF Bay Area. When Reagan died, I remember hearing people call into the local talk radio station (KGO) and just ripping Reagan and expressing great joy that the devil was dead. This wasn't the internet. This was real people taking time to celebrate this man's death OVER POLITICS. It made me sick and I'll never forget that. I don't EVER want to be one of those people. I pretty much despise Ted Kennedy as a politician, but I'm sure there is more to the man than that.

You can read any of the left wing blogs, Daily Kos; Huffington Post, Democratic Underground and find the most hateful, vile comments about Reagan, Tony Snow and even Nancy Reagan when she fell recently. There's too much of that to call it a "sweeping generalization".

Ever go to the Free Republic, or even some of Fox News' very own forums?
Only Bill O'Reilly has tried to make this into a left-only political issue and not what it really is: a human one.
There is hyperbolic ad-hominem stuff coming from every side, every which way on the web.

It's democracy in action...let's hope it stays that way.

Yes. I have seen this. I wouldn't wish ill on top of someone already battling for their lives, but at the same time, let the people speak.

And you never make broad-sweeping statements about leftists? C'mon.
Glenn Beck and other bile spewing squakers have made a cottage industry out of it.
In fact, I think I will start a new drinking game revolving around each time he calls Obama a "marxist."

Well, I don't frequent Free Republic. Those people scare me, and I'm sure there are people there making light of Kennedy's situation. I despise them too. I can tell you that on the GB forums a thread was started about this and not one person made a hateful comment. It is far more common on the left though. People on the left are the ones who riot, chant, shout people down, throw pies at people... conservatives don't generally behave that way.

So abortion clinic bombers, Timothy McVeigh, and the guy who mailed Olbermann anthrax were all peaceniks, huh?
Again, this is a societal problem. Not right or left.

Truly idiotic statement! Whether you like the Kennedy family or not, doesn't change the VERY sad tragedies they have had to endure. I'm quite sure that JFK and RFK didn't ask to be assassinated. I'm also sure that three of their relatives who have died in plane crashes didn't ask for that. Aside from a cousin who skied into a tree (rumors are he was drunk), I'm not sure where your statement even comes from.

Even if you don't agree with Ted Kennedy's politics, he has probably had more of an impact on this country than ANY president we've ever seen! It's truly a sad story, and I wish the Kennedy family well, as they deal with this latest tragedy.

Once again putting words in my mouth, something you're expert at. Of course, I never said that I haven't made generalizations. I'm safe in saying, though, that your generalizations are beyond the pale compared to anything I've ever said about liberals. I haven't equated liberals in general of any of the things that you've demonized conservatives for.

In fact, I think I will start a new drinking game revolving around each time he calls Obama a "marxist."

Not really. You compare us to violent communist regimes and I called you racist. Big deal. The Southern Strategy is standard operating GOP procedure.

...and the liberal strategy of accuse, evade, and obfuscate is part of your well-written playbook. Your race card is so well played that it's become worn and tattered. Time to put it away.

Anyway, when have I compared you to violent communist regimes? Examples?

Socialist this, commie that.
Violent or not, the result is the same.
It's all pejorative smears.
You want to continue play that game, I'm ready.

I've never generalized about liberals being Socialist or Communist and, even if I did, that in no way equated you or any other liberal of being part of a violent regime. That's quite a stretch there, huh?

Are some liberal policies Socialist in nature? You bet, so if the shoe fits, wear it.

I'm not playing the race card when I throw you against the broader historical tapestry of your party.
The GOP has been the party of racists since the 60's.
Remember the words of LBJ, "We have lost the South for a generation,"

You want to indiscriminately make every liberal out to be some Trotskyist pig, so I fail to see the problem.

The GOP has been racist since the 60s? If my memory serves me correctly, didn't a higher percentage of GOP Senate and House members vote in favor of the Civil Rights Act?

You want to indiscriminately make every liberal out to be some Trotskyist pig, so I fail to see the problem.

Once again, I said not all liberals are that way. I've run across quite a few of them, so I've never even had that idea in the back of my head. Please try again, your generalizations aren't working very well.

I didn't say the rank-and-file were all racist, I said the GOP became the party of choice for racists.

You've used smears like that, and so too have many on this forum of your same political persuassion.
