I remember hearing that every weekend in the 70's. From what I remember he was really knowledgeable yet a very humble guy.
So goes another icon of my childhood off into the infinty of the great unknown.

even though the olympics are now on NBC, I still associate that Olympics theme with Jim.....it was always his voice you heard 1st after it played when on ABC.

I heard an interview with him some years back on TV, you could tell his ego was in check unlike many of todays sports announcers.
