OT: "The Incredible Hulk" RULES!!!

Postby Rip Rokken » Sat Jun 14, 2008 2:15 pm

Saw it tonight -- GREAT film! If you are a fan of the character, you'll love this one. Great action, and great story! Also, the emotions between Liv Tyler and Edward Norton will really tug at your heartstrings... they convey their shared pain very believably. HULK SMASH!!!

I might check it out when it hits HBO, but I honestly believe I'd prefer an old Bill Bixbie/Lou Ferrigno rerun.

If you liked the old show, then you definitely need to see this one -- another better cameo by Ferigno himself (who is still huge, btw), theme music from the TV show, and several other homages including a reporter character named Jack McGee. And there are a few scenes where Norton lreally resembles Bixby. They did a great job with it!

I thought so too, Rip. It was uncanny! And for Ferrigno cameos, he was also integrated into Hulk's "voice".
Awesome film- in many ways I liked it better than Iron Man, but I felt like the editing was off in a few places. Knowing that they cut about 30 minutes of character development kinda put me aware of it. If I hadn't know that, I might not have noticed. Otherwise, a terrific film was an absolute MIND BLOWING final fight!

And speaking of IRON MAN and cameos.... :D

GREAT summer flick!

I'll admit, after that slop fest that they put together in the other film back in '03.. I said I'll never see another Hulk Movie. Gave it a shot last night, because I'm a super hero freak...and I must say...

A MUST SEE!!!!! Total kick ass all around. I won't say no more. Ditto RIP "HULK SMASSSSH!!!!"

I enjoyed it. Pure B-movie but pure fun. I thought they made big strides making him look better than in the 2003 film. I didn't mind Ang Lee's version but enjoyed this more.

I was hugely into the old show (my site www.incrediblehulktvseries.com just past its millionth visitor) and I liked all the little nods they did to it ... Bill Bixby on TV, Lou Ferrigno in a cameo, Lou doing the voice, a college reporter named Jack McGee, the LONELY MAN piano theme worked in, the Culver University, the David B pseudonym, the joke on the "You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry" line.

Wasn't there a connection with Iron Man? Is there another movie in the works that brings these worlds together? Very interesting..

Every episode ended the same. Hulk picking up a bad guy or 2 by the seat of their pants and throwing them 10 feet where they lose conciousness !!!

Oh yes, and it's nothing hidden at all. Consider it a continuation of the bonus scene at the end of the credits in Iron Man, but don't wait thru the credits on this one hoping to find any more hidden scenes -- once they roll, the film is over. (I don't consider that a spoiler btw -- just wanting to spare people a few extra minutes of time if you aren't into watching the credits.)

Marvel is doing an excellent job at setting the stage for future movies with these types of crossovers, and there are additional Easter eggs in this film as well -- Captain America, Thor, and a great setup for The Leader. Watch for them!

I can't believe I forgot to mention that Lou Ferigno also provided the voice for Hulk, so great that someone pointed that out, as well as the spin on the "Don't make me angry" line. :)

Good movie.
The ending battle was a little too reminiscent of the blurry spastic CGI mess that ended the first one.
Is it just me, or is watching the Hulk dismantle apache helicopters with his teeth cool enough?
I don't need another CGI roided-out monster in each film.

Ang Lee's verison is a curious disaster, but the scene with Liv Tyler and the Hulk in the rain in this one definately reminded me of it.
A few quieter poignant moments like that would've gone a long way.
Looking forward to Norton's directors cut.
Anyone notice Profesor Sterns began to mutate into the baddie for the next one?

Rip, I caught the Leader, the references to the super soldier formula (even the name of the Dr who shot it into Steve Rogers) but...
What THOR reference? And was Cap or his shield actually in the film (I heard you can see the sheild at some point,but...) I missed it.

I don't know that I'd call it a B movie, with stars like Norton, Tyler, Hurt, Roth and Tim Blake Nelson...but like you, I loved the nods to the old show. What was the CULVER tie in though? I don't remember that.

I literally had to go back and search the spoilers to find them, because especially with the Cap reference, I had the impression it was more direct, and I missed it. The Cap reference was apparently a newspaper headline during one of the New York scenes that said something like, "STEVE ROGERS HAS BEEN FOUND". Also read that in Iron Man, during the scene where Pepper Potts walks in on Downey while he's taking off his armor, there is a Cap shield on his desk.

As for Thor, they said it was during the scene where he was raging out at the thunder in the sky -- if there was anything more specific (like an outline or faint image), I didn't catch it.

You know, I though the same! There was one specific place during the fight with Abomination where the scene didn't translate well. I believe it kinda jumped from Hulk pounding his face into the pavement to him being chased by Abomination, and it wasn't a smooth transition. Is that one of the scenes you were talking about?

Yeah, there was a place or two in the fight, and just a few segments throughout the entire film that just seemed a bit "jumbled"- Overall, a fine piece of work though!

Not nearly as good as Iron Man, but loads of fun!

I really didn't want to go because of the last one, lol. I wonder how many people are staying away because of that "Abomination"

I don't know ... there seems to be some revisionist history with that Ang Lee movie. A lot of critics are "remembering it" as a bomb and flop.

It definitely had a mixed reaction with some being really disappointed, though I think the critics remember it like Cutthroat Island and not as the $137 million dollar movie that made $245 million worldwide and sold another $200+ million on DVD.

It had its fans and there seems to be a "hip to hate" mentality today that wasn't there to the same degree when it was in theaters.

I thoughts Lee's version was "ok" but agreed with many of the criticisms levied against it. The thing that held up least for me was the Hulk himself. I went back and watched the Hulk scenes today after watching the one last night and it was like "wow - Shrek hit the gym"! I remember liking those scenes better in 2003 when I didn't have this Hulk to compare against.

It happens sometimes. I have a friend who proclaims that "he always hated" Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. When I ask him, "if you thought it sucked so badly, why'd you pay to see it in theaters 8 times?"

He usually forgets that he was singing its praises until it became "hip to hate" that movie on the internet. I think Hulk 2003 suffers from a bit of the same.

Ang Lee was obviously a bad choice for the material from the moment he was announced.
Did anyone really expect him to marry his art house sensibilities with something palatable for the masses?
Box office figures notwithstanding, I found "Crouching Tiger" to be pretty boring.
The extended chase scene where Hulk breaks free of the underground millitary confines and ultimately tackles a jet was the only redeeming aspect.
