Gen-X's 80s Music Heroes....

Postby TRAGChick » Tue Jun 17, 2008 12:16 pm

Hey all...

Thinking back on my Music Heroes of my Teens....now that I'm FORTY...

I've come to realize one thing ~
They were all twice as old as I was:

Journey
The Police
Genesis
etc etc......

 They WERE the "Thirty-Somethings" - and they had the Music-Clout to BE THAT WITH NO QUESTIONS

Question:

Do the teenagers of today have this "age-bracket" thing?
No; they have freakin' BRITNEY, etc.... :x :x  :!:

IMO, things have been lost....now, it's like "insta-success"; just add water!
Things that other Artists from the 80s and before have SLAVED over, are now doled out in weekly TV Programming - "freeze-dried', if you will.

THERE'S NO MORE WORK ETHIC!

What do you think of this?

There's plenty of good music, great artists, work ethic, and developing artists in music these days.

90% of it just isn't on, or very high up on, the popular charts. People just need to dig a little deeper to be rewarded by the best music.

Most of my musical heroes are nearly THRICE my age....

See, that's the thing:

I don't want to sound like my own Grandmother, but before all this Internet stuff....it was called RADIO.
If you were GOOD ENOUGH, YOU GOT ON THE RADIO. No "digging" involved!

Most of my musical heroes are nearly THRICE my age....

Well done, young Padawan. 8)

True, Nora, but radio AND the industry have done THEMSELVES in. THEY are the ones who consolidated and refuse to play (or SIGN) anything original or risky anymore. And THEY are the ones who have driven everyone to "steal" music via the net by overpricing their product for the last 20 years and refusing to get with the times and join the digital revolution before it's too late. Young "Anikan's" comments are right on- the only way an artists HAS to make a mark is through the net or live performance.
And was all that music REALLY "good enough" to be on the radio, or did programers (swayed by payola) shove it down our throats? Lots of great music- hell, even alot of JOURNEY'S best music- never got airplay back in the day...listen to the STYX behind the music stories of how GRAND ILLUSION was dead in the water till their manager starting plying the DJ's with money and drugs...granted, GI is a fine album, but still, I hated hearing that!

I know- I'm rambling...it's late and I'm drinking,so what do ya want??? :?
