Journey: Deconstructed

Postby TRAGChick » Thu Jun 19, 2008 10:28 am

I saw this video comparison yesterday - featuring the same song - "Too Hot":

Alanis Morisette 1991 ("Dance-Music Chick" era)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ar7afdfBHj4

VS

Alanis Morisette 2002 ("Jagged Little Pill" era)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qWwd7fwTt8

If there was a chance, and you wanted Journey to "de-construct" one of THEIR songs like this - TOTALLY DIFFERENT tempo, feeling, etc -

What would it be....and why?

Well it's very poppy sounding the way it is. I'd like to see it slowed down and made a little bluesy. Just for an experiment.

I'm sorry, but I definitely have to disagree with the whole concept. I LIKE Journey because they have synthesizers, electric guitars, and huge harmony vocals. If you take that away... you're left with grunge rock (or some alternative) that ruined the music scene in the 90's!JMHO.

With very few exceptions, I really hate it when artists do something like this.

Journey just did the faithful rerecords, so why not perry do the Alanis deconstruct and redo manuever????

F writing new if he has trouble, Journey already proved people are interested in and sales can be made of revisting your classics.

More than EVER I am in favor of perry doing this and I think if he opted to it would be a great, respectable project and could come together in fairly short order.

I have to agree, not digging the second version from Alanis. I haven't heard one yet that I liked.  Bon Jovi did that with a bunch of their songs and it was awful.  Great example is "Always".......love that song.  Never would have thought it was possible to slow that one down even more.  It sucked!

LOL, on a side note......haven't seen that Always vid in eons.......get a kick out of ALL 4 of those kids in the video coming out of it with movie/tv acting careers.

Although Still They Ride might be interesting to hear all jacked up with a faster beat.

Somewhere I have the Techno Version of DSB with Deen on vocals. I thought I had the acoustic version, but damn, I can't find it in my book. :D

See, I'd like to see that done as a piano ballad like Open Arms.

It'd be easy to do.

I'm surprised that NOBODY took the opportunity to say "Positive Touch".
