what is it with these guys.. all the money and fame .. all the time to go ocean fishing .. drink beer , watch their kids play sports and and enter science fairs..

write books , songs ,,.. :wink:

and all they want to do is go back to football or basketball..

there must be something to being a big shot and having your name screemed out..

1st off , for context I am a life long Packers fan........which has been a lot of fun during the Favre era.

The events of the past few years ( this year especially ) exposes Brett to be kind of a Diva, he denies it, but he craves the attention from being a player, and from the rumor mill now that he's retired.

As far as his potential return goes, I'm on the fence....one one hand, he's a Hall Of Fame Calibure Quarterback, and still had plenty left in the tank. ON THE OTHER HAND......He turns 39 in October, and no Quarterback before him has been all that productive at that age. His skills will diminish at some point, and bringing him back is a bigger gamble the older he gets. At his retirement news conference he said I given everything I had to the Packers...I've got nothing else to give.

If Brett wants to play, and I'm Ted Thompson, I bring him into camp while shopping him around....and I'm completely candid with him about it. Get as much for him as a QB starved franchise will give. I'd jump at a 1st round pick. If no trade, and he clearly outperformes Rodgers in the preseason, then let him play by all means.

Pfft.. look at the quality level of starting quarterbacks these days. Favre now could play 75% of these QBs under the table.

Favre is one of my favorite football players, of any position, of all time. Nobody puts more heart and soul into it. With that said, I think he's nuts to return. His last season was as close to a winner as he's likely to get, and going out with a hugely successful season is the smart thing to do. Always go out on a high note. If he wants to be around it, I'm sure he could find a quarterback coach job somewhere.

Yeah, I get that, but I just don't want to see him get hurt at this point. I've seen that poor bastard take some awful looking hits. Hopefully, as respected as I like to think he is around the league, people would take it easier on him than they would, oooh say.. Tom Brady. :twisted:

Brett Favre is kinda like Mark Martin, except Martin doesn't have a title.

I think both still have what it takes even though they're at the 95% point of their careers and think they can both STILL go out on top.

I think he could do some damage to his legacy by coming back.....as it stands, he has a perfect record for starting 275 games and never missing a start . if he misses a game by coming back his durability would still be legendary, but with a blemish. It's kind of like a pitcher with a no-hitter who wants the game to continue even after his 9 inning accomplishment.....

He also risks being mentioned along with the likes of Joe Namath, Johnny Unitas & Joe Montana amongst others who ended their career with another team, and basically played a few years at a diminished /mediocre level unbefitting of their career.

I wonder if that interception at the end of NFC chamoinship game sticks to his ego ?
or if mowing his lawn is already getting boring for him ?

I just remember another Packer Quarterback named Starr still playing in the early 70's despite his arm/shoulder being shot.......that memory sticks with me to this day, and I dont want any similar Favre memories.

I think Favre just loves the game too much...He has felt he needs to retire but keeps changing his mind...I also think he is a diva to an extent.
