Do we have any idea when this was recorded?

It sounds recent, and if it was recent, I'm very impressed with the high notes he can still reach!

It seems like he recorded this for a compilation album with several other artists. It was a tribute album (I believe), and if I remember correctly it was recorded about 2 years ago. I could be TOTALLY off base here!

Well if you're right, those high notes are incredible for guy in his mid-50s, especially at the end with "hold on to that fee-eling"

I just came across this promo video of Starship - I need to get to one of their shows! He sounds great...

Who's the chick? She's pretty hot, although watching "Starship" perform Jefferson Airplane songs is kind of embarassing. She does an okay job, but there's no one onstage remotely connected to that band, so why do those songs? I guess it pads out the setlist but it's still...awkward.

Well they do the best they can without Grace Slick. It's too bad she can't tour any more, she had a great voice.

Rod Stewart wrote dozens of brilliant, timeless songs back in the 70's. Mickey Thomas wrote "We Built This City". 'Nuff said.
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

Mickey only sang it. Like I posted before, songwriting isn't one of his talents.

"We Built This City" was written by Bernie Taupin, Martin Page ("In The House Of Stone And Light"), Dennis Lambert, and Peter Wolf (the producer, not the singer of the J. Geils Band).

Unbelievably, that piece of crap was a #1 hit.

Wow, 2006 it is. I'm still in shock that Thomas sounds so good at 56 (he's 58 now)

Oh and that Starship demo is weak.

Again, no one in Starship had ANYTHING to do with the Jefferson Airplane. Mickey has every right to go around doing the stuff he sang on (basically "Jane" and the Starship stuff) but the band 'Starship' had nothing to do with the original Airplane once Grace left, which is why I think it's weird "White Rabbit" is in the setlist...especially criminal next to the corporate, manufactured rock that makes up most of the Starship set.

It'd be like Gary Schutt using Journey songs to promote his own band just because he used to play with a guy who used to be in Journey.

I think Mickey Thomas and Perry were from close musical backrounds hearing him sing. Very soulful and in his later voice he has a bit of a Perry kind of rasp in the clips I heard. Sounds great for his age.

I had hear about the CD, gave it a listen and like what I heard and order the CD from Borders. I listened to the whole thing when I received it and was amazed at what I hear and liked it. I may not listen to the thing everyday. But I do give it a listen and enjoy it.
