I thought it went "Hush, hush...keep it down now, voices carry".

I always heard

"Hush, hush... sleeping downtown, necessary."

Yeah, that's how I always heard it along with, "roller in the night" lol.
I still hear SP sing, "where is she, again, oh lord" and "I still recall a second chance"...it's hard to sing the correct words once it's stuck.
This one also, "lucy in disguise with diamonds"...I remember singing along to that song in the 60s in the back seat of my older sister's Corvair.
