Revelation by far. TBF pissed me off when I first heard it. TBF is a great adult contemporary cd. Revelation is a great rock cd. I'll take Revelation by a lot.

Much as i like the new album - TBF wins hands down for three reasons - it came out at a time when a Journey album was manna from heaven to me
plus it has many songs i really like Message - Castles Burnin - WYLAW - Forever In Blue - Can't Tame The Lion -
and lastly - its the last time we might ever hear Perry...........and i think he sounded excellent - lower register or whatever crap you wanna spin - still a stunning voice.

IF you use a program like Adobe Audition and separate the center channel from the stereo image you can hear Perry without any effects and hardly any backing music.. It is there that you can hear the edits... Tons of them.... He did not sing for very long on any of the tracks without stopping. Maybe he always "comped" the vocals like that... Hearing him without effects and backing music shows that the damage is there for sure.

That's exactly what I've heard several times now.

Yes, he still sounded awesome because the tonality of his voice rasp or not...

Agreed.

None of the above is important tho - i don't buy Journey albums to perform musical autopsies - i buy them to sit back and listen or dance like an asshole in private and whoop like a 16 year old at the rockers - or even better learn how to play along on my guitar for FUN
- you could probably do what you said - to thousands of artists and get similar results......

You can't possibly be serious.

Oh trust me, Joepa is serious.....he is in a minority but he sticks to his task - you gotta admire that.

You're comparing apples to watermelons, dude! Regardless of what studio "tricks" or enhancements, Perry may have used in the recording of TBF, he wasn't on a stage, lipping to tapes, and presenting it as a live show to the audience! It's simply NOT the same!

John from Boston

Who knows? If Perry had actually toured for that album, Tapegate might have come 10 years earlier. Then again maybe that's why he didn't want to tour ( that and the hip thing, of course).

Perry would not have lipped for 2 reasons i think - one because he knew his entire reputation was based on his vocal ability and secondly (and the reason why some do not like him) is simply because he always held the aces and was never told what to do in the way that SA & JSS were, and probably Arnel will be

[. TBF reminded me too much of Steve Perry solo albums - a couple of good songs and then a bunch of unlistenable crap.[/quote]

Wow! I'm amazed at that - i honestly believe the solo albums are excellent - we are all different tho. However i agree with John from Boston that Generations is awful.

That's what I think. If he couldn't bring it, he would be mortified to get busted using tapes. To me It's no big deal since he would be lipping his voice anyway but as we saw with Augeri, it would be the equivalent of the sky falling for some fans.

I think it was a big deal mainly cos rock bands are supposed to be all about the real deal when live and its the pop shit like - spice girls etc that lip to their album tracks.

Then again - i would be gutted to discover that Whitney or Celine lipped cos i have seen both in concert and thought they were incredible.

I believe Whitney lipped her famous national anthem performance and the olympic theme one also, BUT I believe she was just following the protocol that had already been set for those two events.
