Journey from a most unusual source

Postby hoagiepete » Wed Aug 20, 2008 5:39 pm

Tonight I enjoyed a party that shut down 3 blocks of the Gaslamp district in San Diego. If you haven't been there, SD is a great place and the Gaslamp district kicks.

There was a band on one end of the party and another on the opposite end. The first band ended with DSB and AWYWI. Featured a female singer, but they pulled it off.

Then came a Neil Diamond tribute. They were from San Fran and when the Super Diamond dude introduced his band...which was kick ass, the guitar player played the opening riff to Lights and the keyboard player (and band) went into Separate Ways. They really sounded good. The crowd (couple thousand of us) went nuts. The fake Diamond said they were not Neil Diamond songs...dah...but they were from SF so it was ony appropriate.

The only other highlight of the Diamond deal is they went from Sweet Caroline into Sweet Child o Mine from G n R...still singing "Caroline". Pretty cool. The band was really great...not sure why they were stuck in a Neil Diamond tribute though.

By the way...is it Neil or Neal...fuck it...one of you spelling nazis will set me straight.

Peace.

That's Neil Diamond, not Neal

But the reason they are stuck in a ND tribute is because Super Diamond grosses probably over 3 million bucks a year on tour. They are one of the 5 biggest tribute acts in the country!

I've seen Super Diamond many times and they are always great. Even if you aren't a Neil Diamond fan, you should check them out. In addition to Lights and Separate Ways, they also do a little bit of the outro-solo to Who's Crying Now at the end of the Neil Diamond song "I am I said".

I've NEVER got Neil Diamond. Just has always seemed old to me.

I prefer the Neil Diamond stuff that was done for The Monkees but just never caught the Neil bug. I do have to say that he was funny in Saving Silverman, but he just seems so hokey. Oh well, what do I know.

Yeah, San Diego is a really great place to go and have fun. I'm going there again this weekend, I was there on July 3rd and August 3rd of this year too. Never run out of fun things to do there.
I've never eaten a piece of sushi I didn't thoroughly enjoy.

Hehe, everytime I hear about Neil Diamond I think of the King of Queens episode where Doug is singing "Forever in Blue Jeans" while driving with Carrie, but thinks that the lyrics are "Reverend in Blue Jeans", about a really hip reverend.......I love that show.
