Since I don't want any non-MR people in the league, I'm going to change the cap to 8 people. That will make for a pretty deep league (I am commish of a Legacy League with 8 members) and for competitive balance.

That being said, there is room for ONE more person only!

Thanks in advance and see you this season. :D

Good move, dude! I'm the commish is two other leagues that are 8 teams, and EVERYONE in the league prefers that number stay at 8. It allows all 8 teams to have reasonably good players. You'll have to give me some details on how the live draft works online, because all of our yahoo leagues have always been auto-drafts.

Last time I did fantasy football, all my players got hurt, starting with all my QBs.
I might be responsible for Steve Young. :( The NFL will be healthier if I don't play.

Will do. I'll send a PM to all league members, detailing how it will work. Kind of a Fantasy Football for Dummies. Live drafts are great (as much fun as the season IMO).

Live drafts are much better because the computer cannot account for the human element. It helps to have the rankings and such but sometimes you gotta go by your gut. I usually do much better at fantasy football than baseball, so watch out!

Everyone,

Quick reminder, draft is Thursday night @ 8 pm EST.

We are drafting Individual Defensive Players, so DO NOT draft Team Defenses or Special Teams.

Looking forward to the season.

Please show up early, I had a draft tonight only to find that I showed up an hour late and my team sucks balls.

Going to be a great season.

Thanks for the reminder, and don't be shy about posting this again Thursday afternoon for us old forgetful folks :D Are we drafting kickers??? How many rounds to the draft??? Man, I have to get my ass reading up on this, so I'm drafting the right positions. I've never done a live draft on the internet. I could see this getting very confusing. Hopefully, I'll figure it all out!

Why don't we draft team defenses AND individual defensive players? That's what every league I've been in before has done.

I'm with you there, RWF. I've been playing fantasy football since 1992, and have never even heard of someone drafting individual defensive players. In fact, most of the leagues I've been in don't even draft any defense (although I do like the idea of a team D). But, whatever...that's the commish's rules, so I'll respect them. I'm more concerned about trying to know what positions I need to draft during a live draft online. Going to be a long Thursday night. Hopefully, everyone has 2 minutes or less to make a pick, so we're not up until 3am doing this

Defensive players just muddle everything up. Our league just does team Defenses which is fine. Live drafts are cool though. I'm gonna be at work while Derri's draft is going on so I had to back out. Bummer.

They've been a part of every draft I've ever done and have always been instrumental in scoring me some big points. You have to know what you're doing and get the right guys. I don't follow the ratings for defensive players because they usually don't pan out. You also have to watch them much closer than the offensive players during the season and dump slumping players quickly and do the same to pick up players on a hot streak.

Yikes!! I've always done an auto draft. I've never done a live draft. And my leagues have always only had team defenses.

This should be interesting...

First off....Auto Drafts SUCK!!!!

In addition to giving you more control over who's on your team, live drafts are fun because we have a live little shit talkin' chat room all our own and you get to see how the draft unfolds. If there is a run on a position and all the quality Tight Ends (for example) are gone, you can keep filling up your reserves and grab a TE later on. Most autodrafts will just grab the next TE available, even if you could have gotten them several rounds later.

I do IDP leagues and I do leagues with Team Defenses. Trust me, IDP's are more fun. I always hated starting with points on Defense only to watch them dwindle as the opposing team racked up yards and points. We tried one time to mix the two and it was a nightmare. Scoring issues aside, suppose you draft Urlacher and someone else drafts the Chicago DST, if Urlacher intercepts and scores, who gets the points? It throws the comp for a bit of a loop.

The bread and butter of an IDP is tackles. Yes forced fumbles, interceptions and sacks score too, but tackles week in and week out is where you get your points. Just look at last years tackle leaders and draft accordingly. IDP's in my opinion are more important than TE's and kickers.

I will repost Thursday afternoon.

Good Luck! :D

Senior Moment Reminder:

DRAFT IS TONIGHT @ 8 P.M. EST!!!!!!!

Couple of Dos and Don'ts

Don't-Draft any ST or DST, we are using IDP's. Hopefully the draft computer won't even let that be an option, but I'd hate for someone to draft positions that we aren't even using and essentially waste picks.

Don't-Be late. The amount of drafts happening now REALLY slow down the servers. It could take several minutes to even get into the draft room.

Do-Keep your queue full of the next couple of players you want. It has been my experience this year that the draft rooms sometimes get hung up (especially when someone fails to pick on time). When the draft room gets hung up, you are usually helpless and then it will get 'unstuck' and catch up. When this happens, it jumps forward 3-4 picks. Anyone without players in the queue will simply get the next highest default player. At least by keeping 4-5 guys in the queue at all times, you defend yourself to an extent.

Do-Check in by 7:30. The comp will randomly assign draft order, so I have no idea who has the #1 pick.

Do-Drink heavily during the draft. Passing out and making stupid picks helps me! :D

See ya tonight!

just making sure we dont have our senior moment... keeping this thread alive. IT will sure beat watching obamas speech tonight!! ;-) I hope I dont pick that lousy of a team. The leagues I have been involved online before were automatic drafts.
