Rainy Chicago Concert

Postby RocknRoll » Sat Sep 13, 2008 5:22 pm

OK - Chicago was packed. It's been raining all day which I figured would pretty much put a damper on any walk-ups for the concert. WRONG. The pavillion was sold-out and the lawn was packed and everyone seemed to stick it out through the rain. If anybody left I certainly didn't see them. This is one of the biggest venues on the tour and it would have been a sure sell-out without the rain. (28,000+)

It was really a great concert. Arnel looked like he was having a ball, even when he crashed into Neal jumping off the riser. They both laughed it off, it was actually fun to see.

Setlist was pretty much the same as Indy which included 2 of my favorites. Feeling That Way/Anytime and La Do Da. WOW, 2 shows in a row for my favs. Deen did an amazing job on Keep on Runnin' which I love although I did miss Mother/Father.

Neal opened with his spectacular version of the Star Spangled Banner with the flag on the screen, very appropriate right now. Reminiscent of 2005 or 2004? Anyway. the crowd loved it.

The band was terrific as you would expect. Arnel was all over the place and really in high energy tonight. Tinley has a huge stage and Arnel covered it all and then some. You could tell he was pretty tuckered out at the end though. AP is starting to show a little bit of road wear, but it's been a long first tour for him. Most people who haven't heard him at the start of the tour, wouldn't notice. He still sounds great and it looked like the crowd loved him. A continuous rain with intermittant downpours lost to Journey and Arnel. They kept most everyone there on the lawn in the rain.

I never remember setlists, I'm always just enjoying the show, but pretty standard. Opened with SSB and NWA and closed with LTS. Same songs from Revelation.

Still a must-see.

I forgot to mention Heart is still amazing. Same setlist. CheapTrick was really good tonight, both Jon and Deen joined them. Jon for 2 and Deen for Dream Police.

we got nothing sis. no wind no nada. it is very still here. we normally have 10-15 hour + winds daily and it is so still. creepy. you shoulda seen Howie's hair at the show on the bayfront!! he looked like Cousin It!! we had 20+ winds that night. hahaha

my daughter, son-in-law and 4 granddarlings are in Lufkin. no power. except at their church, where they are youth pastors. their power lines are underground. they have 200 evacuees from Beaumont and Port Arthur at the church that have been there since Monday. the wind is really high as we speak. they have had red cross coming in to feed the peeps--cold stuff cuz no cooking today. I'll have info for donations for those peeps later if anyone is interested. I'm sure they have to go home to alot of nothing but mess.

power is out at my other daughter's home in Humble. That is where IAH airport is and they say it is open. I don't see how with no power. she, son-in-law and 5 month old granddarling are in OKC. with new healthy cousin Cody, born yesterday. :) they will have spin off tornados in OKC tomorrow--when her plane leaves. I think not.....

thanks for asking.

I'm afraid chicago and up that midwest line are in for some trouble--more than me.

Deb, I'm sure glad you guys are ok!!

Have some friends that sent me a text at 1am. They were trying to make it from the Chicago show last night, to St. Louis. They couldn't decide if they should keep inching along in their car through the pounding rain, jump out and hit the ditch from the tornado watch coming on the radio. Good news is they made it at 5:30am, safe and sound, bad news is other friends that tried to leave a Chicago suburb this morning had flooded streets and can't get out! You Chicago'ites be careful and safe!!!!

Great review! I hope they keep FTW/Anytime in the set, and stick M/F back in!! SJ... where are your pictures??? :D

Didn't I read somewhere that in 80's Chicago was one of their favorite places to play. Very well received there..

I was really surprised that so many people came out as well considering how lousy the weather was. We missed all of Cheap Trick. It took 3 hours from my driveway until we parked and entered the venue. We heard the end of CT's set as we walked in. Heart... WOW. I was blown away by them 20 years ago, and I was blown away again last night. I loved every bit of their performance.

Journey... The stage setup was so much better than in previous years. You could tell that more money was put into this tour. You all know about how Neal, Jon, Ross, and Deen act on stage, so I won't go into that. I was a doubter about Arnel until last night. He was absolutely fantastic. The guy worked his ass off the entire show, and the crowd seemed to love him. He is unbelievably talented.

The only request I have for Journey is to stop playing at the Tinley Park venue (First Midwest Bank?). I really hate that place, and it's such a sucky drive to get there! There was an accident on 294 on my way home, so it took 2 hours to get home as well. Or if they're going to keep playing Tinley, how about a show in Milwaukee as well? It only takes me just over an hour to get there. :)
