Looking for heavy metal Journey covers.

Postby wastingbeerz » Tue Sep 30, 2008 12:22 pm

There aren't that many out there that I'm aware of, other than "an 80's metal tribute to Journey" and "Separate Ways" done by Andre Matos from the band Angra, and JSS doing Edge Of The Blade (I'm not counting Send Her My Love because it was done in a style actually mellower than the original... not a metal cover by any means). Anyway, really would be interested to know how much of this material is out there. If there's no much more, someone really needs to get a bunch of good metal bands out there to cover some Journey!!! Stratovarius, Children Of Bodom, In Flames... I'm looking in your direction, here!!! Maybe even someone unexpected. Anyhow, any info on if any more of these covers exist would be truly appreciated.

Heavy metal bands covering Journey songs, not the cover art of Metal: A Headbanger's Journey. :-P

Is that the one where Kelly Hansen sings a few of the covers? Wheel In The Sky & Separate Ways if I recall correctly.

Heard that, but wouldn't consider it metal... more modern punk than anything... and what was the band that recently covered "I Can See It In Your Eyes" with SP backing it up... Guff, I think? Same sorta sound. I think what I'm really wanting to hear more than anything, if it exists, is a bunch of power/progressive & maybe some thrash and melodic death metal (In Flames, Soilwork, etc...) bands covering Journey. Maybe even someone like H.I.M.? Oh yeah just remembered Dream Theater covering Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin as a part of their medley at the end of Change Of Seasons. They've been releasing some official bootlegs lately where they cover an entire album from a classic rock or metal band, and from the ones I have they are pretty damn good. So far they've done Number Of The Beast, Made In Japan, Dark Side Of The Moon, and Master Of Puppets. I think they should do a Journey album at some point. But which one, that's the question...

I was just going to say... I remembered their metalized cover of "Don't Stop Believin" a while back.

I think I have a Styx tribute CD that was probably released around the same time by the same people... picked it up at a used place for $1, sounds about right... some good, some terrible... and I think Shaw & Blades covering Aerosmith at the end for some reason if I remember correctly.

It was a dollar... I once bought St. Anger for that amount just to use as a beer coaster:

So, y'know, point being... $1 and some semi-good styx covers, shaw & blades, and of course some crap... at least I didn't unload the full $15 or whatever it cost full retail, lmao.
