OFFICIALS SAY CHINESE GYMNASTS WERE OLD ENOUGH FOR OLYMPICS: The International Gymnastics Federation said Wednesday (October 1st) that documents confirm all six members of China's gold medal team at the Beijing Olympics were old enough to compete. But the officials say they want more information from two members of China's 2000 team, saying it, quote, "does not consider the explanations and evidence provided to date in regards to these athletes as satisfactory." Gymnasts must turn 16 during an Olympic year to be eligible to compete, and questions had been raised about the ages of China's Beijing team, with media reports and online records suggesting some girls could be as young as 14. China strongly insisted all six were old enough and said any discrepancies were the result of website inaccuracies or paperwork errors. Three days before the Beijing Games ended, the International Olympic Committee asked the FIG to investigate one last time.
