I can't find an explanation either, he just did it. It's no big deal a lot of famous peeps change their names!!!
I can verify that at the age of 8 he was still using FRIGA!!! :D
This was pretty interesting inf. about the fire he survived, sad too ........................

http://www.olafire.com/Survivors.asp

"Jonathan Friga Boy 8 3 Jonathan escaped without injury. He later attended East Leyden High School and the Chicago Conservatory of Music. He adopted the stage name Jonathan Cain, and went on to a successful musical career with the band “Journey”, among others. Today, he is married and the father of three children."

I think we should all go home tonight and say a prayer for the children that did die and also to the lord for not taking Jon Cain from us. Imagine how empty our lives would've been without him. Seriously. None of us would be here on MR without him. Think about that next time people.

I can't even comment on this right now..............

The next thing you know, we are going to see The Mystery of Friga by Tito!!

Bite your tongue man!!
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Tito wrote: In the Time 3 book for songwriting credits to Only The Young it saids, "S.Perry, J. Friga, N.Schon." All the other songs have J.Cain. I never noticed this, probably because until 4 years ago I never knew the man's old name was Fr-ga (sorry Jon). I wonder why and how for that matter it is like that. If anyone knows if there is a reason behind this or if it's just a typo (which I can't see how that would've come about), I would like to know...as others I'm sure.

Wholly crap, I've had Time 3 for years but have nevah noticed this before. I don't beleve it.

Gotta got take a look see....

I had heard that at the beginning of his musical career, a manager suggested a name change. So, he went to the phone book to find a name. Flipped open a page, and put his finger on "Cain"..
One question, for all you peeps of Italian ancestry...is 'Friga' Italian? And is it pronounced: Frig-gah OR Free-jah?? The Italian way would be the latter one.
Folks mostly pronounce SA's last name wrong. Saying Awe-jerry, when it is Awe-jeery. ( In my book he is just " Awesome",.lol!). 8)
I do believe Jonathan's name was legally changed, as his whole family ,
including the kids, use "Cain".
And yeah, SP did call him "Jay"...which is short for any name beginning with 'J'.

At least that is better than, "Beaky Peartree"!!

peace,
Anne

How about Frigaloons? Kind of a reference to Perryloons. But wait. I love Jonathan Cain. Does that make me a Frigaloon?  Forget it then. Scrap that. Just make it Jonathan Cain admirers. It sounds so much classier and SANER.
