Does anyone know how this works, exactly?

I mean, does one have to sign up for a GOLD membership, as well as buy DL content with points?

So it is a subscription, plus buying games?

Braid, and Galaga Legions look promising....

anyone? Bueller?

I think you can browse and check out demos and stuff with the free membership (Silver) and download arcade games you can buy with points which are just cash that you loaded your card with. The gold will let you play online games and get rankings and such. If you don't like to play others online, stick with the free service. You can also network your computer and have your WMP playlist incorporated into some of the games which is cool so when you're racing, you can here you're own soundtrack. That's part of the free setup. You have to probably buy the games you mentioned, but you can download them with the free silver membership.

Yep you have to pay out of your arse for the 'privilege' of being insulted online by some spotty teens from Kazakhstan or wherever singing Stan Bush's 'You Got the Touch' whilst fragging you to pieces in Gears of War or Call of Duty 4! Seriously - it happened!!!

Basically you pay for the gold subscription annually or in 3 monthly increments and you will also need to purchase Micro$oft points to buy the majority of online content. Demos are free.

Or, you can buy a PS3, get online play for free (along with rankings and all of the 'extras'), and turn off the dorks mics on COD4.

It is much more satisfying.

You also get a proper internet browser...

I didn't want to say it for fear of straying off topic but YEAH BABY!!! Playstation Network is definitely the way to go!

Got the new 160gb PS3 yesterday and the 360 seems like it was designed by Fisher Price in comparison to Sony's more intelligent and elegant interface. I have gone to the dark side and there's no coming back!

Well, I have to say you are right about that......XBOX has announced that they are getting rid of their 'blade' interface, in favor of the more 'favorable' 'Wii' interface....you will now be able to create a user avatar llike the Miis on the Wii.

On the other hand, the PS3 is WAY overpriced.....couldn't care less about Blu-ray. PLus, there are way less games for it. I'll stick with my 360, thanks.

I could probably find this elsewhere, but why....

How does the point system work for DLing games on LIVE?

If something is 1200 pts, is that $12?

1200 points is *close* to $12. I'm not sure why but there's a slight difference between points and dollars.

What all does everyone play on here? I'm into Halo 3 and COD4 mainly, but now and then I'll race on Forza 2.

I'm thinking about nabbing some EA Sports games and Fable 2, but I'm in some odd mood these days where I don't like spending alot of money on things.

I actually forgot it had Blu-Ray! Awesome! :D

Of course the 360 has more games available, it's two years older. Quantity doesn't always mean quality though and even a remake of the old Journey Escape game released exclusively on Xbox Live couldn't drag me back to the 360 at this point. My wife loves the 360 and the Wii though and is pretty much indifferent toward the PS3.

I should add that I rarely ever play much of anything these days so I suppose you could lump me under the (very) casual gamer category.

I just bought some points with my debit card.....but it doubled the points, and thus my purchase. I don't like this system at all. It doesn't give you that safety feature of asking you if you really want to do this.

Anywho....just bought BRAID, and GAUNTLET: Seven Sorrows.....

We'll see how that goes.....

and due the ease of buying points, and purchasing games....I'll be putting a password on my account....son doesn't need to be making me broke.

$50 for a year of Xbox Live, a lot of downloadable content.

Negative side to Xbox 360 is the Red Ring of Death.

I usually play COD 4, can't wait for the new game to come out.

Never understood the console gaming thing. For the price of the console and a computer, you could have both in your PC with better graphics. You're not going to game and check MR at the same time anyway.

It's more about the Sony 42 inch screen and the Yamaha/JBL surround sound setup.

Those days where you could get better graphics on PC are long gone bro
PS3 games BLOW PC games away.
And no worries,,, with PS3, you still get your MR access as well with the free web browser. Hook up a bluetooth mouse and keyboard and youre all set.

360, while being a powerfull system, doesnt impress me much anymore. PS3 is powerful with many quality games. And with the new Home interface around the corner, this system should be a part of every household's entertainment center.

Bluray is the future of the movies. 5 years from now, 80% of those who own a DVD player right now, will have a Bluray player.

I'm not so sure about that. The more things a system can do...the chances are something is going lag in the quality dept. And the more things can go wrong.

well then I suggest you stick to good old Pong then :P

If I were to go by your logic, then instead of my Iphone Id have one of the 1st Cell phones (the one's that were the size of a car battery),,,,

PS3 is superior to its competition. Sony is known for their quality, BUT it doesnt mean things cant quit working. That goes for anything, including Computers.
The best thing about PS3 is that its an all in one system, where you can share your photos, listen to music , browser the web, chat with friends with a headset and of course, PLAY GAMES......

Add to that the ability of being able to play ALL PS2 and PS1 games, plus being able to download movies and tv-shows and you have one amazing system for $400..... Thats cheaper than most brand name BlueRay Players.......Oh yes,, it plays Bluray movies AND upscales your old DVD's to 1080P.

The thing PS3 has going for it are firmware updates. There are a lot of pissed blueray customers who can't get the latest movies to run properly on their Samsung/Phillips/Sanyo blueray players because of no firmware updates.
