He'll never be called a quitter either.

Quit what? Carrying other members to greater fame and riches than they would've ever known? I guess he DID quit that.

Neal is my favorite guitar player ever, but I'll always be pissed at him for being an impatient prick. He ruined great new music that we'll never get to hear. I like Revelation, but the new songs on there aren't 10% as good as when SP/JC and NS were writing.

Quitter? Whatever  and even if you do call SP that, you need to say "The Quitter". :D

Impatient!?! They waited nearly 10 fuckin' years for him. Then, nearly another 2 years after he fall down and go boom.
I agree. He came back and did his solo tour in 94 wth?

TBF era Journey. And arguably Journey in 1984.

madsplash wrote:Carrying other members to greater fame and riches than they would've ever known?

Last time I checked Neal left Santana to form his own band. Perry joined Neal's band, dickhead...not the other way around. Besides, Neal was offered a guitar job in Santana (which he accepted for a period of time) and he was also offered a gig in Derek and The Dominos. Perry's greatest offer pre-Journey was a gig on a farm.

madsplash wrote:Neal is my favorite guitar player ever, but I'll always be pissed at him for being an impatient prick.
Neal waited for Steve Perry to tour with Journey again from 1984 to 1998. That's 14 years!!! In between that he saw Perry tour with a lineup of nobody's and break up the Chalfant/Rolie incarnation. Are you seriously suggesting that he should have waited longer? To date, Perry hasn't released one album since Journey gave him an ultimatum. That certainly suggests that he can't sing, doesn't want to sing and/or is creatively bankrupt.

madsplash wrote:Quitter? Whatever
Perry had given up on himself and was working on a turkey farm when Herbie, the manager of Neal's band, gave him a call. Neal was, and still is, the nucleus of Journey.

Whatever, dickhead. (That's a mature name to call someone. What are you in 10th grade?)
They did tour in 1986, so get your years straight.
My point was exactly that. You can wait 11 years, but not 1 or 2 more?
Say what you want, but Neal's "band" is remembered for one person's voice and it ain't Neal's.
I never said Neal didn't START Journey, just that SP made it what it was.

I stand corrected on that gaffe. You're missing the point, though. They would have still been waiting. Steve Perry had no intention of touring and his reocrd output since 1998 is proof of that.

They did wait nearly 2 years. Had they been "patient" they would still be waiting as he hasn't done shit since TBF. They made the correct move at that time. Where they were wrong is when they were too loyal and that was in 1987 and 1994/5. They should've moved on both times.

The point is that they've tried to move on with 3 different singers now. While each has been good in their own way, it hasn't been the same, success wise. Had they waited and done the TBF original reunion tour, it would've been huge and they would've played stadiums and not needed 2 other big-time bands to play only decent sized arenas.

Don't forget, that album debuted #3 on the Main Top 100 chart, NOT the Adult Contemporary chart that Revelation had it's success on.

Neal can keep burning through singers, but it'll never be what it was.

2+ years passed. And assuming Perry would have toured..they couldn't have toured on TBF because it had last it's momentum. It would not have been huge. It would have looked like some of their tours with the knock off singers, without the new music to support it.

Actually, Revelation Debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200, the chart that covers all genres of music. AC/DC is setting at number one on the same chart right now.

The success of Revelation has propelled Journey's greatest hits CD and Greatest Hits DVD back to the top of the charts which has benefited all members, past and present.

2 Soto didn't record anything.

If you're hoping for the "same success" you're a bigger idiot than I thought.

Repeat after me...Steve Perry never intended on touring!!! They could have waited til they were in whell chairs...wouldn't have mattered.

madsplash wrote:Don't forget, that album debuted #3 on the Main Top 100 chart, NOT the Adult Contemporary chart that Revelation had it's success on.
Revelation debuted on the that very same chart at #5.

Journey has played in front of several million smiling fans since Perry left. Perry played high school gyms for a few thousand before quitting yet another tour.

No, he was correct in saying 3. JSS was still an "official" lead singer for Journey. Do you think they would have even been part of that triple bill with Heart and CT this year if Soto hadn't saved their ass and they would have had to pull out of that double bill with DL? Can't discount him that easily, Dan. He's a part of Journey's history, like it or not. Image

And half of those showed up thinking they were gonna see Perry. Don't kid yourself about that.

When Revelation sell it's 14 millionth copy like Escape.....call me.

Thanks. I can see that. It's all good. People who really KNOW, know how things are.

It's just funny to hear Neil keep bashing SP while he cashes the checks that he NEVER WOULD HAVE FRIGGIN' EARNED, had SP not joined "his" band  He is and always has been jealous. Always the second bannana.

He wasn't for any of his many ex-wives. Neal's a spectacular guitarist and a bitter, jealous individual. I'm sure he thinks he's won with the new success of selling 500,000 records(not a million) and a nice tour, but in a few years, after he's sucked the life out yet another singer, eventually he'll have no choice but to crawl to the man(SP) and beg him to put him back on the map, as he did in 1978, and to please help make him some more money to help ease the burden of his many alimony payments.

Watch and see.

No, he wasn't right. He said they "tried to move on with 3 different singers." They didn't try to move on with Soto. They needed him to finish a tour, but they never tried to move on. In fact, quite the opposite. They just did the same thing. I'm not discounting Soto as a part of Journey history or as an "official" member, but they didn't try to "move on" while he was in the band. Thanks for playing "Deb's wrong again!!!"

Soto didn't save anything. He got paid to do a job and he did it well. Nothing more and nothing less. Had he said no someone else would have stepped in and they would have been fine. Youtube was around at that time you know.

You're an absolute fuckin' moron if you think that. I've been to about 30 post-Perry shows and I'd gauge the amount of people that still think Perry's in the band at about 20%...tops.
