OT - Mitch Mitchell Found Dead

Postby Invisible Cajun » Thu Nov 13, 2008 8:08 am

The Canadian Press reports that according to authorities, Mitch Mitchell, drummer for the legendary JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE of the 1960s, was found dead in his Portland hotel room.

Erin Patrick, a deputy medical examiner in Multnomah County, said Mitchell was found dead a little after 3 AM Wednesday in his room at the Benson Hotel in downtown Portland.

She said Mitchell apparently died of natural causes. He was 62. An autopsy is planned.

Mitchell was touring with the Experience Hendrix Tour, which performed Friday at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland. It was the last stop on the West Coast portion of the tour.

Hendrix died in 1970. Noel Redding, bassist for the trio, died in 2003.

From what I understand, Mitch and Noel never were able to claim much, if anything of the revenue generated by the Hendrix catalog as they were treated contractually like session musicians rather than full fledged band mates.

That sucks and is very petty, in my opinion. Obviously, Hendrix himself was responsible for most of the music, songwriting, etc., but those guys were recognized as part of the band.

Yep, compare SRV insisting his trio split all monies equally. Stevie was pure class all the way.

Unfortunately, Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton were also hit financially due to his loss. Stevie was/is as much a star as Jimi.
