He has toured non stop since I've been following Rock and if he had had a problem I am pretty certain I would have heard/read about it. If you've never seen him you must try. The Queen + Paul Rodgers Live Return of the Champions DVD is killer stuff IMHO.

BTW, if you sound like Grace Slick, why not pick anyone of a number of her tunes to add to the setlist?

To a 20-something Bar Crowd? Would they even KNOW about her OR J.A.'s songs?

Sorry; but I have to ask & be "devil's advocate".....y'know?

"I want to sound like a cross between Berlin & No Doubt, with a touch of B-52s thrown in....guess I should have a "lighter touch" to my vocals."

well......if this is your normal sound..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f93CqRUqUpI

You sound like you could do am excellent cover of "I'm walking on sunshine".

I would agree about the lighter touch comment. In that video your voice sounds a bit brash, loud, in your face, etc, etc. And your music is very niche. I can see where it would be hard for you to build up a following in the typical club, beer bar circuit. Even harder for a mature adult band to get noticed in that punkish style of music that's usually reserved for high energy younger bands. I hate to say it, but staying in this musical direction will probably turn out to be a long labor of love with few rewards. There's obviously some talent in the group, you may want to have 2 bands, the current one "that you do for youself regardless" and another band that generates a following by playing a couple of sets of female fronted rock covers that peeps can sing along and dance to. Then...after you've built up a following and have a good rep for putting on a good show of covers, etc, etc. You start introducing your orginals....very slowly and never more than 1 in a row. ;)

One thing I've noticed in Dallas clubs, the female fronted cover bands ALWAYS get more responses from the crowd. Regardless how good or bad they are. Bar peeps just love to see the fems rockin out. :)

I was going for a "Blondie" sound.

Also, I guess it's due to my Classical Training......they always taught us "power, power, power" - and yeah; singing Classical / Opera stuff DOES take power....a LOT of it.

Rock music? Well, that's a whole different animal, I guess....

I'm going to try to reel it in from now on.....

PS ~ If you can, go to our MySpace page....listen to Song #6 - "God & Physics" - there's a light touch to my delivery.
Will try to bring that out more.

Well...well...your voice sounded very nice! Don't get me wrong, you're a good singer. And you're probably singing with the right tone/energy for your band's style of music. Christian Punk/Pop? Obviously you have alot of textures you can use with your voice. I'm just not a big fan of that punky sound. I'd like to hear your voice in something more softer, melodic rock oriented. "These Dreams" from Heart for instance. ;)

TRAGChick wrote:Hey all...

Is this true?

I remember reading/hearing somewhere that Paul's voice had turned into absolute $#!T.

He basically destroyed it....(you can see where this is going....)

Then, miraculously....he worked really hard, did all the right vocal regimens, was more responsible for his health / well-being, and now he fronts Queen....

....sounding like the Paul Rodgers we all know and love. 8)

Does anyone out there know exactly what he did to get "better"?

He took the online Steve Perry Vocal Recovery Course.

Paul has never had any long-term issues with his "instrument."
