Dude!!! I just said it'd run $2500 to $3000, and you say....no, it'd run $2600. Am I smoking something here?

No. I'm on a lot of anxiety medicine tonight and I feel like I'm coming off of Everest while bypassing every base camp. we are on the same page, but I just use a mac and u use hardware.

Well don't be a hater...HATER! My hardware has done me right so far, but I will jump up to software based probably within the next year or two. There's so much more you can do with software!

Bejeezus, your hardware has cost you much more than this aluminum and glass box!

My recorder only cost me $1400. My keyboard is what I was referring to that cost over $3400. I got a hell of a deal on the recorder, as it ran $2200 at the time. I bought mine off of ebay and it was brand new, never opened.

A Tascam 4 track? You da man!! ;)

Here's my studio setup:

24-track Digi 003 Rack w/Pro Tools, Factory Bundle (lots of plugins) $1,300.00

Dell Precision 390 Core 2 Quad Q6600, 1TB hard disk, 4GB RAM, Windows XP Pro $1,000.00

(2) AKG C3000 Mics $600.00

(2) AKG C1000 Mics $400.00

(2) Shure SM 57's $200.00

Event 20/20 Biamped Studio Monitors $800.00

(4) Sony MDR-7506 Headphones $400.00

Total: $4,700.00

Cost of a decent 8-track analog reel-to-reel machine in the 1980's: $4,000.00

It's amazing what you can get for your money nowadays in the recording equipment industry. I can't think of any other industry where you can get more for your money than you could 30 years ago.

Imac $1799
Logic Pro $499
Motu Ultralite: $600
MXLV69 (mic): $@400

I can't even begin to catorize the bases and guitars and preamps I have...

Learn what you can with what you have!

I remember what I did with a SM57, Creative Labs soundcard and a CD burner.

Have you used PT a lot too, Jeremey? Logic 8 in particular sounds really enticing to me, a Pro Tools LE user for a little while now...

Just wondering what you (and other music recorders on here) think of the "versus" breakdown

No versus for me. ProTools wants your money. Logic has it all, but not necesarily what the big houses may want. So for Songwriting, Logic 100% of the way.

For recrording demos. just do what comes natural.

I'm definitely really interested in Logic - I had a bad experience with it cause I had a lemon FireBox a couple of years back that wouldn't stay mounted no matter what I tried, so I never really gave Logic a fair shot cause I got a DigiDesign box after my bad Presonus experience. Plus I didn't have any idea what the hell I was doing, coming from using Tascam HD recorders for a couple years (and not exactly being adept at that either). But man, reading about Logic 8 is really making me think about giving it a whirl.

Somehow all my wisdom was erased. I remember the CL soundcard and CD burner from 1999 as well....Buy the new logic. You won't be disappointed.

I promise you if you have Leopard and go to buy Logic 8 Pro you will not be disappointed.

I'll be honest, I saw this thread earlier and have been putting off listening to it for one reason--I was afraid it would suck like a Hoover  .....but I finally gave in after reading everyone else's praise, and lemme tell ya, I was VERY impressed! What a talented guy you are--I'd love to hear more of your stuff!

Thanks for the praise. I wasnt sure what people would think. I am writing and getting a ton of snippets together. If i do an e.p. its going to be a mish mash of styles. Hard stuff, ballads, etc. Got a new thing that is very beatles sounding.

My first impression was Brother Cane. The singer has a cool little Tommy Shaw vibe too.

Very good! One or two words seem a little out of place and mess with the flow a tiny bit but overall I really enjoyed it! :)

I am open for suggestions if ya have any. I hate writing lyrics and sometimes have to sing nonsence just to get a vocal melody. If you can point out which part I would like to examine it. Any ideas ?

I have been playing Guitar and some bass (they are transferable skills) for 13 years, Singing for about 5, playing drums for 27 years and writing lyrics for about 4 years at about a song a year. Yep a song a year with finished lyrics is about all I can sum up. I need collaboration but around here its death metal or country. I have about 50 or more half songs and more snippets that could be made in to songs. Might need a bridge or a chorus, you get the drift.

I can not find people with the same vibe and musical direction in this city.. Louisville, Ky SUCKS for original music...God how I wish I could write with Tom Yorke of Radiohead or Neil Young. Their lyrics move me.

It would help if you could pm or post the lyrics but if you don't have them handy I'll have to listen to it a few times to try to get them down. I'm not really a writer but I've been told by many people I should be so I have just completed a children's book and am currently working on the illustrations, but it's my first and I haven't written any lyrics really..I just call it some free form poetry..so I doubt I could help you out and do any better but I'll give it some more listens and give a suggestion if I can..if not me then maybe someone more qualified can make a suggestion. I can at least point out what I meant in my comment if nothing else. As I said, overall it sounds good and the musicianship is very good.

Just listened a couple times and jotted down the lyrics. A couple lines were not totally clear so I wrote them down in pm and you can correct any I may have wrong...I also pointed out the small bit I was mainly referring to. After I'm sure the lyrics are all correct and I can get the full vibe of the song then I will send you any suggestion I come up with..but what you already have may be better and I'm feeling like this may come across as a bit presumptuous...sure didn't mean for it to be at all..but since you asked for input I'll try to give some. :)

Ok, LD..the very slight revisions I made of the 1st and 2nd stanza are italicized....

You tore the sky beneath my feet
Oceans of time are lost to me
I'm an opened book for all to see
but you won't look until I'm gone
Alone, can't think of keeping on

( chorus)

Don't make me look you in the eye
Can't face the laughter full of lies
I know that was all there was this time
I feel like fading away in obscurity
Just grasping the last hold of my dignity

Just suggestions...don't know if its singable or will flow any better so feel free to take 'em or leave 'em, but I hope that helps that one area I talked about yesterday and you can take something from it.. even if it's not how I have it. As I said..it was a minor thing and the song is very good overall...dig the chorus....and the musicianship is fantastic. Keep rockin' and have a great week! :)
