Alex Ross.. hands down. The way he portrays his character is beyond imagination.

Ross is a fantastic colourist but his work is as rigid as Journey's set list.

A common complaint leveled at him is that he relies far too heavily on photographic reference for a comic book artist. That being said the absolute best comic book art work I have ever seen bar none is in the DC book Justice, drawn by Doug Braithwaite and painted by Alex Ross. Braithwaite's style is not dissimilar to Ross's own but has so much more life. The characters actually look and feel like superheroes and not just Ross and his mates in tights. It really is outstanding.

My fave artist is Henri Matisse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZttjNhhcgA
love basically all that was happening in France at the turn of the last century - the bold happy colors, flat shapes, child-like drawing: Here's another artist I also like Raoul Dufy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlJqIWdB3eY

Thanks for this thread...reminds me I have a useless B.A. degree in Art History..lol...but, I do love art.

Dude, if you're going to have all those, you need this one too -

Ross' Joker and Batman there look awesome, I have never seen those before. Joker looks alot like a more understated version of Nicholson's portrayal there!

Oh, yeah, Rhiannon, I dig Bernini, too - dramatic, passionate...here's one of my fave sculptures: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPh1sqrO ... re=related
I mean, look at his fingers pressed into her thigh...and, that's freakin' marble! Incredible. I always think of when I get to heaven (God not forbid) if I can ask to review history in the making...watching those sculptors chisel & carve something out of blocks of rock.

Close, but not quite. These are the dwarves caught by the spiders of Mirkwood.

I love this by Bruce Naumann. It almost looks like apple peel.

And this guy is better known for his surrealist stuff, but I think this shows what a truly talented artist he really was - Salvador Dali
