Slacker Radio...Lots of Journey Tracks

Postby Enigma869 » Tue Dec 23, 2008 5:00 am

Anyone using this?? www.slacker.com is their website. I just signed up and it's phenomenal. You can customize radio stations FAR more than with services like Rhapsody or Pandora. The Journey playlist is also very extensive. I went in and created a Journey station and they have tracks from the Augeri era as well as tracks off of "Revelation". It's 100% free to sign up and use(they do have a $3.99 montly membership if you want unlimited skips and requests). If you use the free service, you have to deal with 3 minutes of commercials per hour (wal-mart seems to be the commercial of choice), which represents the amount of music you get per hour on most terrestrial radio stations

This thing is better than my iPod in my opinion, and I own three ipods. I believe you can listen through their website in your office without having to purchase any fancy gadgets. I'm a bit of a gadget freak, so I purchased an RCA Infinite radio for my office, which gets Slacker, Internet Radio, Instant weather forecast right down to your zip code with the touch of a button, AM and FM, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something. The thing is fantastic and I think I paid just about $100 for it. Also, Slacker has a portable player that looks like an iPod. I think it's called the G2. It's a bit pricey but looks like a really cool device. Sorry if I sound like a commercial here. I really don't work for this company and even just heard of them a couple of weeks ago. I just was curious if anyone else was using the Slacker service and what your thoughts are about the service.

Hey Dan...

If you check it out, let me know what you think. I've been listening every day in my office and am officially a Slacker Radio addict. I don't even listen to Sirius (which I have a lifetime subscription to) any longer. Very cool technology for music fans.

I'm already a slacker so this should be a seamless transition for me.

Yeah, are you a relative of George W Bush? Sirius Radio, with NO commercials, ACDC and E Street radio, and Howard Stern vs Slacker radio?

My God. Dude? And you pick Slacker?

Um, no. I'm happy to report that none of my relatives are nearly as intellectually challenged as that dope W. is!

Well, I'm a Stern fan from way back which is why I subscribed to Sirius to begin with. When it comes to music, Sirius is okay, but you tend to hear the same songs over and over again. Slacker simply has FAR more options. You can't hear a certain song when you feel like hearing it on Sirius. You can on Slacker. It simply allows for far more specific music than Sirius or any other music service on the planet. Now if I could only get Stern on my portable Slacker G2, life would be good!

I was actually hoping to get a "fuck you" out of ya, you redeemed yourself nicely with the admission of being a Stern listener. All the Stern critics, many on this board, don't understand what a family it is. When you listen religiously, you become involved and must follow along. It has an amazing power to suck you in, and then you never want to go anywhere else.

Anf JFB, regarding Sirius' music selection, they have so many rock channels to choose from, and some, like the E Street Channel and ACDC, play bootlegs of legendary concerts. That is too cool.

I've been using Pandora for a while but I haven't tried this one - thanks for the tip!

I have Pandora also on my Sonos system and it's pretty good for what it is. I also have Sirius, Last FM, Rhapsody and every other service under the sun on my Sonos system. I just find Slacker to be far superior to anything else out there. I've only been using it for less than two weeks and am quite impressed. I decided to bite the bullet and pay the $3.99 per month for the premium service so I can customize my stations even further. Let me know what you think of it if you decide to give it a shot.

It seems pretty good so far. My main problem with Pandora was that it kept playing the same songs over and over again.

I had to Google that Sonos system you mentioned, and now I want one! When I get a house, that is. :)

That's my problem with Pandora as well. I get it free through the Sonos system but would be pissed if I was actually paying for the service. Pandora is fine for what it is, but Slacker is FAR superior than anything I've come across. Glad you're liking it. Hey Dan...Have you given this thing a test drive yet?

I've been using the Sonos system for over two years and can't say enough good things about their company. For starters, if you Google "Sonos Review", you won't read a single bad review of this product ANYWHERE, which is highly unusual for almost any electronic device. Their customer support is SUPERB. Also, they update their software very frequently (and it happens with the push of a button), so it keeps their content VERY current. The other thing they've done well is all of their hand held controllers function exactly like an iPod, so there isn't much of a learning curve for most people. I had an Elan system (another whole house audio system with keypads mounted in the wall) in my last house, and the Sonos system is a MUCH better option for whole house audio. If you ever take the plunge with a system, you definitely won't regret it. If you're a Sirius subscriber, you can even listen to Sirius in your house, without having to worry about any antennas, which is the biggest shortfall of satellite radio.
