Ours was better than Perry's and the re-record. Plus it would have made a killer video.

Yes, video next time instead of just still shots

Now let's bury them in a hole and never speak of them again.

Actually, Perry is not required to give permission for use of any re-recorded music. He only has control over his voice and image. He will still get paid but it is "Journey's" product and only "Journey" needs to give permission. That was, in fact, the main argument FOR the re-records: control over their use by the band, ie Neal and Jon.

That's cool and explains a lot. So he gets paid but can't block the usage as long as it's a re-record. Since the different versions are from different publishers, wouldn't the movie have to pay two agencies and would Perry in essence be paid twice if they used both versions of the song in the same movie?

IF the movie played both versions then I would imagine there would be a double-up on paperwork. I don't know about songwriting royalties. I don't think it would be any different than "Open Arms" being played 4 different times in "Last American Virgin"...pretty sure it is still only one songwriting royalty.

What I mean is the money goes to two different labels right, Sony and Nomota who in turn pay the artists/songwriters if they used both versions of the songs. I think this a rare occurrence were double dipping could conceivably be allowed.

I guess what I'm saying is, if Perry gives permission, then the original version by itself would be the logical way and cheaper way to go. I'm only saying this due to people who might be thinking that both versions were used in the BedTime Stories Movie.
