I've gotta dilemma- I'm working up an acoustic duo and basically, just need to play with the other guy, but both of our schedules are hectic and we live about 30 miles from one another. It's really tough to get together for rehearsals due to scheduling, distance, etc.
I've heard that you can use Skype to rehearse online. Anybody have experience with online rehearsal?
I tried it yesterday, and it almost worked.
There was no latency problem or anything and we seemed to be in the same time, etc. However, when he'd play, I couldn't hear him if I was playing. He couldn't hear me if he was playing. Almost like a CB where only one person can talk at once.
We were able to work out a lot of things, but as far as playing together at the same time, it was problematic.
My question is, do any of you have any kind of experience with any kind of online rehearsals? Is there a way to do this? I think if this could work, it would simplify things SO much. Maybe not for an entire band (or maybe so, according to some of the stories I've heard) but for a duo, it could be an ideal situation.
Just thought I'd ask just in case. Thanks.

Personally I think you guys would waste more time trying to make it work than if you just drove the 30 minutes.

Use the audio out from the pc into one channel (his sound). Plug your instrument into another channel on the mixer. Plug headphones into the headphone input on the mixer and mix the two channels to your liking.
Best of luck and problem solved.

Sounds like an interesting solution!

Virtual Led Zep has been making music via YouTube and have never met each other in person. Do a goog search on them. There's a thread here about a month ago about the lead singer sounding so much like RP. That's the group.
Edit...sorry, you were asking about rehearsing...i think they record their instrument separately and then someone puts them all together.

You might want to ask your question in this forum here. I heard some people run MSN messenger and Skype together when they are trying to do what you are doing.
