Congress fleeced

Postby squirt1 » Sat Jan 10, 2009 3:11 pm

This should be a movie. The banking INDUSTRY had no strings attatched to the use of their $350,000 billion bailout. They also will not tell Congress about how the money was used. Evidently, protecting the taxpayers investment wasn't protected as in being in the rules. I see Barney Frank on the news blubbering in double speak about this, but it is actually Congress that screws up this country by constantly trying to buy votes for their next election. Many need to go to jail !!!!!

the banks put the monies in their general funds so they have no way to track where it went on the initial bail out. What a fricken joke.

meanwhile I will keep making my monthly payment to the hospital for services rendered while the illegals go in daily with no ss#, DL# or citizenship and get treated or have babies and don't have to pay a damn thing.

Yeah, I don't think it was Congress that was fleeced.

I'm a skeptic in this whole bail out thing. I'm fairly skeptical as a rule, but it's us, the taxpayers that are getting fleeced.

General recipient of the bailout...

"Hey, give us 80 billion dollars unconditionally, we'll give you a large kickback, and the taxpayers will think they're saving the country."

Then you can hear the laughter roar at our expense as they pocket all of it.

Yeah, as I said, I'm a skeptic.

When is enough going to be enough. We need another fuckin Boston Tea Party. I'm sure most of you are sick and tired of being taxed to hell with absolutely dick to show for it. Republicans and Democrats alike have fucked us over and over for years. We're done. We've reached a saturation point, a point of no return, where things cannot ever realistically go back to a suitable and generally prosperous system. All the scumbags and dead beats are being rewarded for terribly irresponsible behavior and the majority of us Americans, the ones who follow the rules and do things right, are being fucked with a rusty pole. How about a bail out check for us? I don't care how much or how little money you make, if you are doing things right and living responsibly, how about bail out money for us? The country is unraveling before our eyes. Flat tax or bust

Man, I'm usually a pretty optimistic person...

Yep. All of them. When the GM execs show up in corporate jets with a tin cup in their hands, something isn't right.

I've said before on this site...I have GM as a customer...and believe me...I so wish they hadn't given them the money. Truly an inept run organization.

so the banks get all this money, no strings. who benefits from this? the FDIC insures deposits up to 100,000 for an individual and I don't know how many average americans have beyond that in their accounts.... meanwhile the auto companies employ the average american, the working class, etc... and getting a friggin loan was tough. so tell me, who benefits? my conclusion is the rich, once again the working stiff gets screwed. congress is made up of millionaires, it's time for a revolution!!

Lula- Congress was trying to make sure that car dealers could get financing for buyers. There is a whole other tier of jobs that go if the car dealerships close and that is their suppliers. The car brands that don't overpay by 33.00 per hr to union workers have a better chance of staying in business. So, GM ,Chrysler and Ford struggle. Even foreign brand cars, made here in the US have started to struggle. The media has made a recession into almost a depression. The money went to shore up their bottom line for the stock market reports and Congress should have been smarter ! Banks, Ins Companies,Unions, are all GREEDY. There is an Economic Recovery Act, that I think ,Clinton signed yrs ago. It forced banks to give loans to anyone . Check out the 2 clowns appointed to head Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae by Clinton. Ck out the bonuses they left with. When the housing industry went the dominos started falling . Congress forced banks to loan in order to get VOTES !!!

Overpaid by $33.00 an hour? They don't even make $33.00 an hour. That's not even the average. Stop believing everything Corporate America sells to you.

i believe the banks/wall street were bailed out to save those that have. there is no oversight. there is no money being lent as was the idea, or so i thought. the loan to the auto companies was unfortunately necessary; without it many more americans receiving an hourly wage would have been out in the cold. i realize management and the union messed up, but why should the working class be the ones to suffer? enough is enough!

They didn't mess up. GWB messed up. The Right has been trying to bust unions for years. They'd love to see us all living on minimum wage, living in communes. None of this was even an issue before GWB took office.

Yeah the Democrats in congress are already lining up to be the first to take potshots at Obama.

People tell us conservatives to give Obama a chance, and his own party is already starting in on him.

Obama understands you create jobs with lower taxes, and that if you raise taxes now it will destroy our economy. Score 1 for Obama.

The Democratic leadership in congress (hell 95% of the congress regardless of party affiliation) are all about their own elections to office.

Rick- 1st of all Congress, specifically the House of Rep,, by the Constitution, control any money that is spent. A Pres can try to block them or sign a bill. He does not even have line item veto power to stop Congress for packing their pet projects to buy favor with their voter base. The name is earmarks . 2nd when wages of 73.00 for Amer car makers and 33.00 for the non union car makers include the promises made to workers to be paid @ retirement. It is NOT actual $ per hours but obligations that need to be made and therefore they have a higher selling price and their past actions are now catching up making them non-competitive and a bailout rick.

Their wages are one thing. I think the $73.00 an hour is what it costs the company, or what they say it costs to employ that person for an hour. I know for a fact they don't make that much. The company blames it on the employee, of course, when they need to look at their own cost structure. I'll bet they get a wage that is competitive with Honda or Toyota. The one thing that does hamstring corporate America is paying retirement benefits. Companies from other countries don't have that burden, or at least not to the same extent.

I have zero sympathy for corporate execs who live a lavish lifestyle and have the balls to show up in Washington on corporate jets asking for handouts. I do care for the working class, however.
