OT: Man Kills Wife and 5 Children After Losing Job

This is about as sad as it gets. Just an AWFUL story. Another piece of collateral damage from the collapsed U.S. economy.

It really has nothing to do with the economy, to tell the truth. If they blamed it on the economy and losing their jobs, they probably would've snapped sooner or later over something completely different.

Dave come on, there's an excuse for everything. Facebook made me do it, the economy made me do it, my girlfriend made me do it, my Xbox made me do it, my album made me do it. Let's not get unreasonable and suggest personal accountability here

Yeah, go figure. God forbid that these people could've thought about someone other than themselves.

5 kids to feed, lost their jobs, didn't want to leave kids with someone else. These were educated people by the way.

There is alot in his letter that doesn't make sense. The hospital might have had grounds to terminate him, but his wife?

Interesting hand note at the bottom. He was reaching out to someone with that statement.
When in doubt, DUCK!

Don't forget the famous Twinkie Defense.

This sucks, I totally agree:( The guy should have duffed himself and gave everyone a damn break. Maybe his wife could have found someone who wasn't a self pitying asshole.

They both got fired from the same company, which means that cannot collect unemployment benefits. That means starting over from scratch with nothing after they go bankrupt.

Not saying they were justified to take their own lives, just saying that they had reason to feel hopeless. It would be bad enough if one parent got fired and couldn't collect unemployment, let alone both of them.

I'm sure it won't be the last one. The economy is going to get much worse based only on the jobs that have already been lost.

My problem with this is McDonalds and other fast food places are still hiring at 8 dollars an hour. They would have had to go bankrupt and start from scratch, but people do that every day. The kids all qualified for freekid care in California it looks like. They could have got a stay on being evicted from their homes for at least a few months while they found a one bedroom apartment which wouldn't have been hard (L.A doesn't enforce the one room, one child shit so that wouldn't be a problem). If both worked at minimum wage they would earn around $2,000 a month after taxes. Plenty of families in California make less than that. Total fucking coward, doesn't deserve one ounce of sympathy but people are going to blame Kaiser and everybody else for this. It's pathetic.

You left out the number one excuse...."The gun/maker made me do it." People just aren't raised to take responsibility for their own wrong actions, bad behavior, and/or poor decision making anymore. It could be called the TTS or "The Timeout Syndrome" and usually in most cases effects individuls 40 years of age and below and who were raised in the discaplinary atmosphire of just getting "timed out" for doing a variety of things wrong while growing up, such as lighting the family's cat on fire, shooting their little brother in the face with a pellet gun, stealing money from their parents, etc.

Yeah Gunbot, you said the magic word....work. And 2K per mo sound's like a lot and I think it would be less then that though. I thought minimum wage was over $8/hour in CA, guess I'm wrong. But there were bigger problems with these people, cause they were terminated recently for something other then a layoff. So there were some issues going on that may have been contributing to the end result here.

Yeah, it's 8.50 an hour now. Iwas saying with two of them working they should get around 2k a month. Falsifiying their income to get cheaper child care was the reason they were termed, from what I understand.

Falsifying their income to get cheaper child care? Oh well then that's just "The Man's" fault. Cause we all know how "The Man" likes to keep the black folks down. Bottom line, it's saddening that the children had to suffer for what the parents did.

I was thinking it was over $8 but wasn't too sure of that. And yeah I know you were saying both of them working for the 2k a month. But still, that seems like a lot, especially if they are working at Miki Dees. They should have just gotten jobs at Safeway. Once they hit their six month mark, being union as that place is, they could just threaten to go on strike if they don't get an increase in benefits and stuff. Works every time! I'm sure we're about overdue for a Safeway strike any day now while we're bullshitting.

Gunbot wrote:OT but have you ever gone clubbing in Roppongi?

Of course, that used to be pretty much the only place to go clubbing back in the 80's. During my May/June 08' trip to Japan, I returned with my wife to the place where we went on our first solo date in October 88' in Roppongi. We had eaten dinner at Hard Rock Cafe and then went next door to the 13th floor (The Regency) and danced for the entire evening. Even today I still have my polished stainless steel Regency membership card that was issied to me back in 87'. Hard Rock Cafe is still there, but next door has changed on the 13th floor. It's now a Thai restaurant. We took the elevator up and the place was closed but no one was around. So we walked around with my movie camera recording our walk through the closed restaurant. It was very emotional for us both, maybe more me then her though, not sure exactly. Almost twenty years passed us by since we were in those places together. "After All These Years" did play in my head as we took that stroll.

So yes, I used to go to Roppongi clubbing every weekend between the years 86' through 88'.

I used to go to a club called Bibilos (sp?). I think it's GasPanic now. 3 floors with a bar that was hydraulic and went up and down between the floors. Saw Bon Jovi there and a bunch of other rockers back in the day.

Yeah, I was living in Japan when Bibilos was in operation. My friends and I called in Bimbo's cause it was wall to wall freaks in there. But they tore that fucker down in late 86' or early 87', cause I remember the time a bunch of guys leaving one evening going to bibilos. We had just returned to Japan after one of our operations outside Japan, we had been gone a few months. So a bunch of the guys go up the tracks and a few hours later, the group returns completely deflated and I'm like "WTF, I thought you guys were going to up to bibilos to run some hoes?" They said that when they got there, it was nothing but a fenced off lot of mud, completely gone without a trace except for a single piece of tangled up angle iron sticking up out of the mud. They may have put up a new building there and named it GasPanic, but I have no clue if that's the case today.

Another place similar to it was called Circus Circus and it was in Yokohama, you would have to walk through the Yokohama China Town after getting off the train to get to the place. Did you ever go there?

A matter of fact, Bibilos was the club where my two friends got arrested and tossed into Japan jail for a few days.
