Wow, never heard your voice
I love it!!!

Love Cry me a river...

I love your voice
Alto is great
I used to think higher was better
but truth is it is not
you just have to make the best of the range you have...

Love the sultry velvet notes!
Now if I can only find my own.

I'm not a trained singer so I know bugger all about how you classify but as far as I know it, Alto is the lowest female register. The male tenor is pretty close to that but they can usually go higher than a female Alto.
Soprano is the high female register [some can go up as far as what's called the whistle register, like Mariah] and a mezzo soprano falls between soprano and alto. So its kind of a middle soprano.
I've heard the stuff you have posted up and I'd guess you probably are a mezzo soprano.

Norah would probably know better. I'm just guessing.

And I think that most singers have a range of two - two & a half octaves. Obviously some people like Yma Sumack [peruvian singer, not sure if I spelled it right but she sang "Virgin Of The Sun God"] and Mariah Carey.

Perry is special, whatever range he is classified as, that's for sure.

BJG---you are correct---the voice of an angel---there is no other like him---however, it was never about the high notes for me...the tone of his voice goes right to my heart and gut..does strange things to me! LOLI really prefer some of the lower ranges, like on TBF one of my favorite albums if not my fav.

[quote=" Daryl Hall has more money than even Perry, dude is a good business man but very down to earth.[/quote]

Hall and Oates outsold Mcartney and Lennon, along with every other songwriting duo, and they are both alive and still kicking it. Plus, despite their success, neither one ever got creepy or wierd like Lennon did either. I read an article on Oates in Skiing Magazine and he seems like a guy happy in his own skin. I saw Hall on a Direct TV special and he sounded great. Fantastic band too. I guess 63 in 2009 is a lot different from 63 in 1959...

The harmonies on RoR and TBF are phenomenal.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

Wow, I had completely forgotten about Yma Sumac! I first heard her as a child back in the 60's. I remember how exotic she looked and what a strange voice she had. They called her the Inca Princess. According to her bio she had a 5 octive range. Here is just a small sample of what she could do. Amazing. Definitely an aquired taste though.

I'm not trained either
I can read music & dabble at the piano, can also play a little (very little) guitar & drums.
I did sing a few years in college chorus
did take music theory & sightsinging
all the good it did me

I took a vocal perfomance course in early 2000 at Valley College with Ron Becks.
He said he really was impressed by my voice.
He was writing a musical in Beverly Hills
He wanted to write a part for me
I turned him down
LOL
Missed my chance but I didn't feel I had the experience or was ready...seee I'm shy
LOL
To tell you the truth, the compliment in itself really meant the world to me.

OOOh well....

I still don't know my key or what my voice was meant to sing
I can sing more notes than a 2 1/2 octave range
I was dust dabbling on the piano & my voice will break registers in that so thats why I said its a low ocatave range as I can only sing that in a whayt I consider chest voice.

I'll have to play one day to see how high a note I can hit
I can get pretty low too.
I swear I could sing G2 but thats just by itself.

Well we are all learning
We now know vibrato & voice registers
Now I'm curious about that whistle range
LOL

I don't know what I am doing
I sing by feel & some who have heard have said that I am a natural
that I can just make up harminics or something
Bottom line I just have fun with a song & try to sing it from the heart & have FUN!

i'm just happy as a pea in a pod today as the old Volvo passed her smog test...

:P
