Listened to this one today. I forgot how much Terry Brock sounded like a rough Steve Perry on this album.

Great songs also.

You guys know this album/band?

I heard that the albums after Brock left were really different.

Brock in his prime would have made a great Perry replacement, in the studio that is, live he wasn't that strong.

It's funny to hear how he changed his vocals on the 2nd Strangeways album to sound less like Perry. Although I always felt it sounded a little forced.

No comparison at all to Strangeways post-Brock. Totally different band.

As far as live goes, the only live stuff I have heard from him is the video from the Native Sons tour (which, admittedly wasn't all that hot)....and a live show from The Gods in 2001 with his solo album--which sounded just fine. That being said, like Perry, Brock does a lot of ad-libs live as opposed to a straight-on studio duplication.

Interestingly enough, that year, The Gods festival did a Journey tribute thing to end the weekend and brought most all the singers up for a song or two. The show ranged from average to occasionally pretty good to downright bizarre (Magnum's Bob Catley on the "na nas" of LTS). Gotta say that for a one-off fun night that Terry Brock probably sounded the best of anyone. There are some recordings of that floating around for those inclined.
