Schlitt's voice was incredible back in the day, nearly as good as Perry, in my opinion. That said, I think both Schlitt and Smith would tell you that they are happy where they are at and don't regret the choice of playing Christian music. Ministry is more important than fame and fortune for them.

I played in a band with John Schlitt's brother Jeff for a few years. He's a great keyboard player (he used to play in a band with John post-Head East), and he's a great vocalist too. He has the same vocal range as his brother, but for some reason he never pursued a recording career. I have an original where I played guitar, bass, and drums on it and he played keyboards and sang. His voice sounds eerily like his brother!
