OT: Red Dwarf back on TV 10th April!!!

Postby joonrock » Wed Apr 01, 2009 9:50 pm

This will probably interest the UK people here mostly but the Sitcom Red Dwarf is back on TV from Next Friday!
Its on Channel Dave (Sky and Freeview channel), they have made 3 specials to mark their 21st birthday!!!
This was my favourite TV show as a kid and still is!

It interests me. I love that show!
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Whatever happened to the movie they were supposed to be making?
Is it still trying to get finance or has it been shelved?
If it came out already, I must have missed it.

They apparently got to the final stages of post production a couple of times. To the stage where they all got their teeth capped! But then the film company pulled out. They are doing this to test the waters for a new series I think...

Let me know what it's like - we'll probably have to wait 3 months or so to get it here.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

I am livid! Had to postpone a gig at Hard rock cafe yesterday due to having a bad cold and not being able to sing a note. Then they re-booked it for next the next Frdiay... when the first new red dwaf is airing! Waited 10 years and Im gonna have to record it!!!!!!

Not perfect but it was SO good to have them all back, I thought.

Tell tell tell! I'm hanging out for it to be shown here in Oz!

Well the first episode was the worst. Particually the first half, were some of it was actually painfull to watch. But I think it really picked up and at times showed alot of promise. I dont think however that the guy can keep writing it on his own if they are able to do a whole series, it definitly needs a couple of writers in there, just for some new blood in the show really. Overall all though it was great to see them back together and there certainly seems to be enough left in the tank for at least another series.

I agree that the first episode was pretty bad! A lot of re-hashed jokes in there sadly. But the second show was great and the 3rd was pretty good too. I agree that they need more than 1 writer in now, the guy has been writing this stuff for 21 years ow, needs someone elses input for it to get back to how it was when there were 2 writers on board. Was fantastic to have it back though! My favorite show ever! If they make a series 10 though they need a laughter track, even though its outdated it just fits the show.
DVD out in July for anyone that's interested...

I liked the no laughter track on the specials once I got used to it, it kinda gave it more of a "movie feel" I think. But yeah it probably should be brought back.

AFAIK, they didn't use a laugh track, the old episodes were at least in part recorded in front of a studio audience.

Yeah but still added studio audience laughter also.

The reason for no audience during the specials was that they didnt want the storyline to be spoilt, but I think it probably also had something to do with budget.
