O/T Julia Fordham

I was playing old CDs recently and I listened to Happy Ever After and Where Does The Time Go by Julia Fordham.

She's an English woman who moved over to the USA some years ago.
Has a very unusual voice and an incredible range.
I was wondering if any of you guys have heard of her? Like her? Hate her?

And is she successful over there?

I've never heard of her. With out seeing her, you would almost think it's Anita baker.

I was curious to know how she is making enough money to pay her bills etc.
She must be writing for other artists and earning a crust from that, maybe.

Of course, she reminds me of you a little bit. I do have to be in the right setting to really enjoy it though. When I was in Japan, they had Jazz clubs on every corner in Tokyo and Roppongi. That's where this girl would have a better chance of being discovered.

She wasn't a jazz artist when I saw her live.
She did stuff like this {I think she looks like Ellen DeGeneres on this} - I love her low notes. That she has turned jazzy was news to me, but her voice does lend itself to that style.

Wow, she has already done a bunch of shows in Japan and has new dates lined up at the Cotton Club.

Her China Blue album is all Jazz from what I read.

She really reminds me of Anita Baker, even in the soundtrack song.

Wow there's a blast from the past. I had one of her CDs but it must have been 15 yrs ago. I haven't heard her name mentioned in a very long time!!!

I was gonna ask the people here about her but I reckon she's not your cup of tea so I didn't bother. It is nice to know that she's got other fans here as well. I just love her smoky jazz low voice and she can hit the high notes too. Her songs bring back some memories as somebody sang Girlfriend to me before while I was still going out with my-then-girlfriend-now-missus

Apart from Happy Ever After and Girlfriend, I also like Love Moves in Mysterious Ways and Loving You

She must have a range of quite a few octaves.
Those beautiful low notes are really low and she can hit quite high, too. That's some skill.
And she has the same power on high and low.
I think the woman is underrated.

And mdaemon - what I like about this board is that people are open to listening to new stuff even if you don't think it's their cup of tea.

I've discovered loads of artistes I had never even heard of by being a part of this community.

Yep looks like she's become a fully fledged jazzer.
Her voice suits it - so it's quite surprising she didn't take that route earlier.
