Album Discussion-"Dream after Dream"

Gayest album ever (with the exception of "Little Girl". I bought this album a few years in a record store for $17.00, and ran. Once I heard it, I new why it was still sitting on the shelf!  "Little Girl" is a Gem though.

One of my favorite discs of all time

Postby chynablue » Mon Apr 06, 2009 3:00 pm

I have to disagree Jim. I spent many nights listening to this in my youth, it truly saved my life numerous times and helped me get through the shit that was going on. To be fair, I've always been more about the b-sides rather than the hits that get worn out on radio, and since this CD never made radio I guess it was always a gem for me. :D

I won't hold this against you Eric!   I seriously listened to it 1 time, and put it on my shelf, never to be heard again. I guess I'm just more into the commercial stuff. My all-time favorite album is Escape. I do like the B-side songs from their albums though... there were some real gems in there!

back in the late 80's i was walking through camelot music in the mall when i saw this on cassette.i bought it and i'll admit it didn't make my playlist anymore like the other albums.of course i didn't really know the story behind dream after dream until i bought the boxset in '92.

Wow, cool Eric. I also love this album. I have the Japanese import on vinyl. Great headphones album.

copies of the album

Postby chynablue » Tue Apr 07, 2009 3:10 am

I got it on Japanese vinyl when it first came out. Later I got it on cassette, and eventually the Japanese import CD which cost me around $40 a few years back. I kept the vinyl anyway, not sure why. I still retreat to this album when things get really bad. I think this record allowed them to really stretch out. :o

I love this album from start to finish. I wish Journey would have experimented more and not written so many songs about love and relationships however some of that stuff is their best work. This album has WAY too little Perry and needs a remaster (never gonna happen).

I think I've only heard a few cuts from this album. "Sandcastles" alone would make it well worth the purchase price for me. Love that song.

I love the Punk Rock / Destiny cut - one of my favorite Journey tracks ever....Little Girl is great too - the rest of the album, I never really found myself listening to, in any regular rotation. Picked up the import CD though, after my brother sold my LP when he moved out many years ago.

GI. hang on to that album, it is rare now and is worth something to collectors, if you have an LP. I own a copy, and I actually like Destiny and little girl.

Congratulations Jim for starting a thread about a Journey album that mikemarrs didn't already cover.

Little Girl by itself saves this album. There are a couple of more good songs. I know the first track, Destiny is really good.

I play this in the office all the time. Even those who don't like Journey in particular ask me who it is, as they dig the sound of it.

Well, it was either "Dream after Dream", or "Red 13"   Come to think about it...I did like "Walking Away From The Edge"... I guess it's a toss-up.

Listening to Red 13 makes me want to walk off of a fucking edge. Preferably of a cliff.

Other than "Walking Away From The Edge"...I'm with you. Shitty album, and the mix and production were terrible! I'm telling you, if I had access to Cain's studio, I could have mixed that shit better!

I also bought the japanese import of this record when it came out. I really do love this album and Destiny just plain kicks ass! Great vocals by Perry and killer riffs! Sand castles and Little girl are also my favs.

It's not rare at all, considering it's been re-released numerous times on CD.

Great album, though. Arguably my favorite Journey album.

Both of you should be kicked firmly in the balls. I volunteer my foot. :D

The production did suck, though.
