Is This Where We're Really At?

Postby madsplash » Tue May 12, 2009 1:03 pm

While reading news today, I found an internet poll that asked the following question: Who goes first? Farrah or Patrick? Are we really to this point? I find it hard, and extremely saddening, to believe, that our society has sunken to the level of voting on the demise of two of our beloved stars.

Maybe it's just me, but am I wrong for finding this incredibly sickening? I know I'm old now, but can this really be where we're headed? If so, I'm scared and sad.

Damn.

I agree with you...this world HAS gotten very scary. The morals here and abroad seem to diminish every year. You know...I remember my parents used to leave the keys in their cars when I was a kid...how else would they find them when they wanted to go somewhere? You'll never find a neighborhood like that again. It seems like all of the tv stations are in such a competition to "Shock and awe" you, that they compete to disgusting levels. We bring it on partially ourselves though...it's like a car wreck...you don't want to watch, but you can't look away. I guess it's just morbid curiousity. Pretty scary! :(

Seems to be. I'm not sure how to explain the shape this world is in, to my 9 year old daughter. Don't want to lie to her, but I'm ashamed to tell her the truth.

And on we go.

Tabloid world for ya. Sad....but someone must watch/read these shows/sites.

I caught ET last night for the first time in ages as I can't stand the fucking show. and it is only getting worse and truly dumber. Can't believe anyone watches that pure shit.

News segements cut into two and three pieces so not to lose viewers not interested in one story, or frightened any news item longer than 1 minute might be too hard for anyone to concentrate on.
Rotating screens to hide the face the presenters wobble their heads too much...layered graphics to hide the fact a news item really isn't news at all, or even remotely interesting...talking so fast so as to keep the viewers seemingly as excited as they are.

God help us all if that shit format catches on.

Am I alone here folks? :)

I, think reality shows are about as low as it goes; I hate 'em and surf pass 'em as fast as I can.

"Is This Where We're Really At?"

Or,

"Is This Where We Really Are?"

Sorry, but even with barely a high school education, grammar is a big deal to me.
Prepositions will bring you down...unnecessarily.

"Is This Where We're Really At"? Obviously, some of us are behind the "at". 8)

Seriously, though, speculating on who will kick off first just shows what a sick, jaded society it has become. It also shows that cancer treatment hasn't come all that far. It's either don't get chemo and die, or get chemo and die. I have a friend getting chemo right now and given 3 months to live. It's everywhere. If we don't clean up our environment and our food supply, it's only gonna get worse.

all I have to say is look back at some of the polls here... so yes this is where the internet has been going for some time now... who will have the train wreck next seems
to be what all the gossip shows are about now for ratings....its all human nature. Look what Neal Schon had to do with his own blog two days after posting it... he had to clarify
that yes Arnel is in the band as a full member...because people read WAY TOO MUCH in what is not written, instead of concentrating on what the band is working on...
just saying...

It's called "shock value".

The media thrives on it and so do alot of the celebrities. The public eats it up. There is no self-respect anymore. What can YOU do to cause shock and awe to the public. Do anything to get your faces/names on tab pages or tv.

The highest bidder gets the "death bed" pics. Same as all the crap with Elvis in a coffin - the saddest pic ever taken - yet worth tons to the taker.

In the case of Farrah and Patrick, in their very difficult days the media has robbed them both of their dignity and privacy.
When in doubt, DUCK!

ya, Neal also DIDN'T say he will be playing guitar with journey on the next tour( hint:it is a given) just like he didn't say Arnel's name ( also a given). by MR logic, Neal won't be playing guitar next tour, nor will AP be a full-time member. :D

Why should it shock anyone? What do you expect from others when people on this forum are lobbying for the right to be disrespectful, rude, and crude to total strangers? :?

It's become a really tacky world.
