I run into people all the time that don't know Perry or go, oh, Perry, oh, yeah, was he the lead singer of Journey. Is he still with them or is he still alive or is Journey still around. No interest shown at all. Most have never heard of Trial by Fire or FTLOSM. Just knew the earlier stuff. Truthfully, I only have one friend that has any interest in Perry as a singer still and follows the internet and he has not interest in Journey. Perry is off the radar being gone so long and out of sight. He will need to do some promotions and appearances to really make it a big hit.

He did walk away, no real question concerning his departure (no pun intended). And like i have said many times before, if you ever watched him live (i saw him in (1978, 1979, 1980), his overall tools (Perry Tools) were not of this earth. He was different from anyone i had ever seen and his actions towards stardom were on course. All that being said, He had to of known he had magic gold in his vocal cords that were seemingly flowing out with no strain what so ever. (Fast forward to the 90's). All that touring, singing, and recording for 8 consecutive years took that effortless magic (Perry Tools) away and he became mortal. I believe he was so pissed and so burnt out, that he JUST FLAT OUT QUIT. He blames those days and all that was forced upon him.

That's the numbers I was thinking of. I have said before, once WALMART gets what they want (the initial foot traffic) artists tend to fall off their radar. Foreigner has the same deal coming up (3 disc set). I don't know if it's with Walmart or not though. I think Walmart is like a one night stand. Don't expect any phone calls or invitations to come back anytime soon. The store got what they wanted and now they're done with you.

It's like people expect Journey's next album to be released with a similar deal like they had with Revelation. It just isn't very likely IMO.

A very cheap one night stand at that. Made in China.

He wasn't five. He made the choice, and he got a lot of control in the process. He had it all, and walked away from it. Can't hold anybody accountable for that but himself. Who knows, maybe he has moments where he's sorry he walked away?

He still gets paid from that work and hasn't had to hold a job in over a decade. He shouldn't be blaming anyone.

What you people are saying is true, he left himself, no question about that. But the real question is why. Retirement, LOL, yea right, 20 years of it. He lost his vocals that made him godlike, and he saw it coming. The funny thing is, during that so called FTLOSM project, he made a song called i think One More Time. This is from someone who had been reported from so many to have lost vocal range, e.t.c. When i listen to that song and a couple others from that album, i think to myself. Is there another singer who could pull that crap off. This coming from someone who was toast. Hmmmmmmm.

Perry himself said they were on a mission and he was driven. He's never blamed anybody for those days, least of all said anything was forced upon him. ROR was the first time he couldn't do it b/c of personal reasons and burnout and cut the tour a little short.

One More Time was 14 years ago. Who knows what he sounds like now? I don't think he would commit to anything if he's the least bit unsure of being able to pull it off. Vocals or otherwise. He's too much of a perfectionist for his own good. Or maybe he truly likes simply collecting checks based on his past acomplishments.

And Perry is the one who said he was toast. He won't commit to "retirement," yet he hints that he will be back, although there are absolutely no signs of it.

Yes, he's left the door open, but the window is closing.

On the other hand, there are alot of 60-year old singers who still have great pipes and are active. If Perry did get vocal help from a doctor, is this his re-coming out party. We will see, soon i hope.
