He is extremely mediocre as a singer. Very forgetable.

Maybe the ladies like his looks? That's the only reason I can see why he is still getting appearances.

Like the new song. I will certainly have to listen for this. His looks are the added bonus along with the voice. 8) :D

This guy had an album out on Itunes before his AI gig and had songs played on the radio too back in 2003.
What exactly are the rules for being contestant on American Idol?

I think as long as the contestant isn't tied to any other contract or agent at the time of the auditions (i.e. they may have had a previous record contract), then they're eligible - or something like that anyway. We had a contestant on Canadian Idol a few seasons ago who was formerly one half of a quite successful duo in Canada, they had a few 'hits' on the radio.

This is what I was trying to say in another thread man. I mean yeah, you expect these guys to have gigged and performed in some capacity, maybe even done some home recording/amateur recording in this day and age of easily accessible home studio equipment. But having guys who have been clear-cut pros on there, in any capacity, defeats the entire purpose of the show, at least as I understand it. Dumb.

Under these rules, Arnel can go for a spot on AI after his current gig. How can this be right?

Are there rules? I mean, I think there are, but are they codified anywhere for us to access? Whatever they are, once you have "gone pro," you shouldn't get a shot on that show.

So Steve Perry apparently qualifies also.
