Maybe so, but Daughtry got the last laugh, wouldn't you agree?

I do agree Taylor Hicks was and still is a joke. I could never understand why nobody called him kareoke, because that's exactly what he is...that, and the definitive reminder of what a dreaded lounge singer is.

embarrassingly bad. he was just in Grease in my neck of the woods.
oooh
whoopeee

and yeah Daughtry got the last laugh. I'm thinking the same will happen with Adam.

Adam, Daughtry and Journey should record a song called "No Taylor, you do not makes us proud"
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I didn't care for Taylor. But, man, you guys are harsh. I feel bad for him the way his career didn't take after winning AI. It must be embarassing. He's just a musician trying to make some kind of livng.

yeah Jana, but the fact that he won at all just shouldn't have happened and it illustrates pretty clearly how messed up the whole AI deal is.
Also, I'd probably have a bit more sympathy for him if he hadn't started that dopey "Soul Patrol" garbage.

Sorry, I just didn't think he was worthy.

He wasn't worthy. I never liked him. My sister used to say, oh, everybody loves him, blah, blah, blah. Where were all those people who voted for him when his debut CD came out? Nowhere to be found. At least, if they voted for him they should have supported him when his album came out.

Wasn't most of Taylor's popularity on the show derived from the fact that he looked like an old fart competing amongst mostly great looking teens and 20-somethings? It was kinda like the "image is everything" axiom in modern day music was bastardized...

yeah, I didn't see anything particularly unique about TH's either. His "soulful" singing and stage presence were kind of forced. Wasn't the choice for winner down to the girl (Katherine?) and Taylor? Neither had that great a singing voice, if you asked me. And it was surprising a kind of chubby man with gray hair would be an "idol."

Okay, am I the only person who's going to admit liking Taylor Hicks now? I did. I enjoyed his performances "soul patrol garbage" and all. I didn't think his soulfulness was forced, it had a real delta blues style, Ray Charles-esque feel to it. I don't think it was something the tweens who do most of the voting would have any interest in as far as supporting Hicks post Idol - and they didn't - in droves.

As far as the other finalist, Katherine McPhee (sp?), IMHO she was vocally the most technically sound contestant on the show to date. She was a very polished singer. I thought her personality came across as lacking a warmth, but otherwise she gave solid performances.

WDILYL holds at #19 on the AC Chart this week. But Journey picks up rotation on 3 new stations: KRBB, KVKI, WSRS

Baby steps, baby steps.

I still prefer a song that stays in the top 20 for WEEKS as opposed to a song the peaks top 5 and falls off the chart less than a month later...

I liked him when he was going for the Michael McDonald thing - i.e. when he covered The Doobs, but he chose a lot of dull stuff and his post AI song choices were even worse - needed to go rock a bit more.

Does anyone remember AATY making it #2 on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Recurrents (whatever the hell that is!)? And can anyone explain what that chart is?

It's another shortbus chart. They've even got charts for ringtones now. The recurrents are songs that have been on the hot AC charts for longer than 26 weeks but have fallen below the Top 20 songs.
Think of the the A/C charts as a Junior varsity chart for the Hot 100. The A/C recurrents are kids that aren't starters on the J.V. any longer but are still on the depth chart somewhere.

Thanks for that colorful explanation, GB. I figured it was some obscure chart if a song that had fallen off the regular AC chart made it #2. Still kinda cool in a "short bus" sense.
