Martin voice any day (yeahh i said it! )..love ozzy work with Sabbath, his early solo records are outstanding, and Gillan is for me in my top singer from all times!

I never said I don't like Ozzy at all. It's just that he...pales in comparison to Dio!

Sorry. Seriously, I love Sabbath Bloody Sabbath! It's awesome. Sabotage, Technical Ecstacy and Never Say Die! are great, too.

You think Ian Gillan has a better voice than Tony Martin? Hmmm...maybe now he does. Tony's voice doesn't sound like it used to. But in '86-'96 Tony beat the pants off Ian (not literally, hahahaha)!

Ozzy and Dio are great front men, but yes there is mayor difference in vocal quality, of course Dio is in another level as a singer....now the second one...dear i respect most of your opinions here  ...but you are SOO WRONG this time; look at 86' Ian sing a little early (if i'm correct 85, or 84)in Perfect Strangers album with Deep Purple..i mean common!! Knocking at your back door,Wasted Sunsets, and how forget Perfect Strangers ..perfect vocal register, he can any day kick Tony Martin ass, in every way, as a singer and as a frontman..excuse me but is Ian Gillan!!!he is unique, more respect damn it!!  :D

Ian Gillian is a great vocalist, but I can see how some may be put off by his style - especeially from the early Deep Purple stuff. For me personally, Ian is a top 25 rock vocalist. In comparison Ozzy and Martin would be some where in the latter half of the top 100.

I saw DP and Gillian on the Perfect Strangers tour and was absolutely blown away. That still ranks as one of the top 10 concerts I have ever seen (and I have seen a lot). I wish Ian and Ritchie could put aside their differences and co-exist in Deep Purple. They belong together. Don't get me wrong, I love Steve Morse as a player but when I think Deep Purple, I think Ian and Ritchie.

Now put Steve Morse together with David Coverdale and we might have something real interesting there........... 8)

Finally!!..someone make sense here! Ian Gillan is in another level, superior to Tony and Ozzy... wow you are so lucky i had seen some of the DP vids in youtube from that tour, and Ian was on fire back then..and yeah we all wish that Blackmore wake up from his medieval dream and come back to rock with DP or Rainbow..now i do believe Steve Morse is a fantastic player, i saw him live and he really kick ass, not like ritchie (he is from another world), but still very good :)

Just my (very 'umble) opinion, but Steve is actually a better guitar player than Ritchie, in a technical sense. His band the Dregs was as different from Purple/Rainbow as night and day (fusion, not hard rock/metal), but Steve can play just about anything. At first I was surprised when DP hired, but afterward I realized it should have been no surprise. They got a guy who pull off Ritchie's lines and also do different stuff. I love both guitar players, though. (No me castigas!)

Like Queens Of The Stone Age? I like a couple songs. I think they're overrated. They have a pretty rabid fan base. Since they (and the band they broke off from, Kyuss) are from my neck of the woods, I'm not as impressed as others are. I never liked Kyuss.

Or are there other bands you're thinking of? Stoner rock is a somewhat nebulous genre to me.

Queens Of The Stone Age are indeed highly overrated, and it really sucks that they're usually the face of "stoner" rock/metal when even the band they came from, Kyuss, are lightyears beyond them. Josh Homme really pisses me off for trying to simplify and popify Kyuss's sound.

My favorite stoner rock bands...
Sheavy
Cathedral (usually considered more doom than stoner)
Fu Manchu
Spiritual Beggars
Sixty Watt Shaman
Monster Magnet
Electric Wizard
Mushroom River Band
Orange Goblin
Nebula
Kyuss

I could go on... but yeah... all MUCH better bands.

Oh, I still like Ozzy... just getting sick of how he and his wife have been acting lately... tarnishing their own legacies in the process... just like Metallica did for me in the 90's until about 2007.

But that's the funny thing...overrated as they are, QotSA is the better of the two. I never got what people like about John Garcia's voice. Honestly, as far as hard rock goes, I thought they were average at best. Their so-called "mystique" has done much more for them than their music ever did, breaking up before ever getting "big," playing unannounced and/or "secret" gigs, being produced by Chris Goss of Masters Of Reality (another band whose cult status I REALLY don't get), recording at Rancho de la Luna studio way up in the high desert, etc. To top it all off, Kyuss never really made any money, and I think that also adds to their status as "artists."

Now just don't get me started on Eagles of Death Metal!

Not familiar with them.

Cathedral (usually considered more doom than stoner)

This is the third band I've heard of with that name, the other two being prog rock and metal bands. I think that word should be banned from the Band Name Lexicon.

Fu Manchu

Another band known more for Brant Bjork drumming for them for what, one whole album?

Spiritual Beggars

These guys are pretty good.

Sixty Watt Shaman

Heard of 'em, not familiar with their music.

Monster Magnet

Ugh.

Electric Wizard

Not bad.

Mushroom River Band

Not familiar with them.

Orange Goblin
Nebula

I need to hear more to form an opinion.

So do you listen to Bigelf? I like them loads better than any band you mentioned here.

Wow QOTSA better than Kyuss? Your ears must be broken. LOL j/k to each their own... but yeah Queens tend to get a bit to poppy/borderline emo-y for my tastes. And don't get me started on the debate about artist relevance based on how much money they make... because to me that is irrelevant.

Cathedral - I'm referring to the Lee Dorrian-fronted stoner/doom outfit that's been around since 1990 or so. AMAZING Sabbath-flavored doom... the best if you ask me...

check it out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkVw6_VTi2A
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9Qdj7pt7Iw

Sheavy... damn man, look them up!!! They used to get posted back in the old napster/winmx days as Black Sabbath unreleased demo tracks... their lead singer has a haunting similarity to Ozzy, but not so much that they sould exactly alike (there's a band out there called Count Raven, that the similarity is even more... well, similar...). These guys just flat-out rock, and if you're into old school Sabbath, they do NOT disappoint (and they definitely aren't a clone, either).

here's a taste:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLAO7WBf81U
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_j7R0JRtA98

and the obligatory Black Sabbath cover (War Pigs):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbN9CMv1h-0

Sixty Watt Shaman:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTrD_OIsPMs

Monster Magnet... should have specified OLD MM, however do like some of the stuff off of Powertrip and Monolithic.

Oh yeah, and how could I forget DOWN? Three great albums, just hope that they stay together this time and that Phil doesn't revert to "Superjoint Ritual" again.

Bigelf... haven't heard of them but will definitely look them up!!!

Saw Fates Warning opening for Queensryche and Dream Theater... back in 2003 I believe... and Redemption 2 years ago opening for Dream Theater.

A friend in Boise has never seen FW and he went to the DT/QR/FW show over there...and FW wasn't playing that night. The stage was too small to set up their stuff in front of QR's, I guess.

Can't say I like what I've heard of Redemption. Formulaic, run-of-the-mill prog-metal. Nothing stuck to my ears.

Sorry but it seems to me that Ozzie can't even sow his own genitals as his wife wears the balls in the family & if any sowing is going on it surely is Sharon with time on her handswhich is a good thing for without her Ozzie would be 6 feet under.
