They posted the first photos of him as Whiplash. It's remarkable how Rourke has redefined himself and brought his career back to life. Loved his work in The Wrestler, too.

I never read any Iron Man comics or anything, but tell me this (if you know).... How would a dude with basically a skeleton suit and whips take on Iron Man who has armor all over and missles, AND can fly? I don't get it.

Personally, I was hoping for a gnarlier nemesis than this for IM2, but you never know. I have confidence in Jon Favreau.

I reckon at some point Whiplash will be in a full suit, not just a Mad Max-looking skeletal apparatus.

Mick Rourke kicks ass. His re-emergence in the wrestler was fantastic. Loved that movie. IM2 will do well, and with the success of IM, I believe the 2nd could round up tremendous numbers. We'll see where they are going with the Whiplash character.

I'm sure this is an earlier version of what he'll be wearing as a full blown villain. Kinda like when we first saw Stark testing out his exoskeleton in his lab before he had the full suit.

What you can't see in the picture is he has a 55 gallon steel drum of whoop-ass strapped to his back, and he'll crack that puppy open and pour it all over Iron Man, R.D. Mercer style!

No prob, we'll catch up another time. Looks like we might miss each other at one of the upcoming Journey gigs, but the timing didn't work out well for me.

Mickey definitely kicks ass and between him and Robert Downey, Jr. this movie should be an acting tour de force. Doubt we'll be seeing the new Mickey in any more Wild Orchid type roles, though... LOL.

He couldn't - in the comics Whiplash is kinda sad and pathetic and Iron Man kicks his ass over and over.

In fact I believe there is one time he catches Iron Man on a bad day when the suit is in AI mode and Stark is drunk and Iron Man beats poor Whiplash into a bloody pulp and accidentally kills him.

Yeah, one time would be enough, espcially if you get killed.

I read that the other day on Wikipedia trying to learn something about the character. His suit goes out of control and kills him. Like Michael J. Fox's friend said in The Secret Of My Success, "Don't consort with the suits!" :)

Sounds like there is some confusion about who Whiplash even is because apparently the first Whiplash was a woman -- then you later get this guy who switches around between being Whiplash and Backlash. He must be a popular villain in the comics, but from the small bit I read I couldn't understand why.

Can't wait for IM 2. Pretty excited about Thor too, with Branagh at the helm.

I absolutely loved Iron Man and can't wait for the sequel. I think Rourke will be great in it. I loved The Dark Knight, which came out that same year, but in this genre of movie, Iron Man beat it hands down.

You know, "drunk posting" may not be a good thing.

Seriously, Iron Man was killer, even if the climactic battle with Iron Monger could've been better (the construction of the grey suit in the cave, in the first half of the movie, was the best part).

But to say it "beat TDK hands down"? C'mon. TDK is likely the best hero film ever. And I'm only saying that because I still (!!!) haven't seen Watchmen. (But I did read it when it first came out.)

 Not even hangover posting. I loved The Dark Knight. Heath Ledger's performance was an absolutely brilliant performance and I loved the dark story line in the movie for Batman as the hero. But Iron Man really had no flaws. Wait, maybe it was Robert Downey, Jr.'s rockin' body that had no flaws. I'll have to watch them both again and be more objective this time. Maybe they will tie next time around. :D
