My Fault this time, i mention them (defending Coverdale and Turner names), but NOT for compare them..now about who are or not complete real musicians  at the end come to a taste thing i guess, about this particular band i think they are very pretty girls, but for me their music is quite boring...but well that's me :?

Carla - they are genuinely talented - but they do not hold a candle to JLT and Coverdale from a few years back. I wish JLT would tour this Rainbow act round the world.!!!!!

Hey Gordo, watch Nils in Glasgow and then come on here and ell me he isn't a badass himself.

Dude - i saw Nils a few years ago touring solo - when he released Secrets in the Street - and he played most of As the Night Fades Away - and yes, he did the backflips! He is a brilliant guitarist and i respect him greatly. Will always have time for him and his brother Tom - who shook my hand during the gig(front row is great eh?)
You might be surprised at some of the shit i like man.

LOL, Nils can't do the backflips anymore...he had hip surgery and Bruce isn't going to cover his hospital bill if he falls on his ass during the show.

Nils is amazing- plays mostly with his thumb.

I don't like Springsteen, but I first saw Nils play with Neil Young in that concert film they shot in Berlin, and I thought he was the bomb. I also liked Bruce Palmer's bass playing.

Btw, this accusation of lip-sync'ing is something else. Not sure what to make of it. I heard Coverdale sing "Is This Love?" a couple years back on Mark & Brian's morning show and he sounded fine to me. *shrug*

Fuck you for not liking Springsteen

Seriously though, don't you think JLT better be accurate on this? He better know 100% if Atlas is miming or not. Either that or he just flat out hates the guy. When Journey lipped, many artists knew, and now probably all do through rock n roll signals and inner circles, but none of them said a word; kind of like protecting their own but not really. I bet if you asked Steven Tyler if he knew Journey lipped, he would say he yes he knew. I bet Bryan Adams knows, Heart knows, hell, I bet even Bruce knows. Word gets around.

Turner has got to have the goods on this guy. He absolutely has to, because if Coverdale is not lipping, I am sure he would want to legally go after JLT for defamation of character.

His vox is fucked up in a weird way though, there is no doubt about that. In his lower register his voice seems to always border on "cracking". His mic has alot of real time compression set so he can sing softer and it still sounds loud. Every time he's about to hit a higher note he does a weird throat move to add a little scratch/distortion combined with pulling the mic back a bit. All evidence of straining. I think the pulling the mic back alot makes it look like he's lipping but in reality he's just doing that so when he strains you don't hear the scratch/grumble/throaty sound he has to make to get the note. It's called "attempting to blend the distorted vocal into the background". I'd hate to hear his vocal isolated byitself right now. yikes.... But he can still get those high notes in "Here I Go" and "Still of the night". But they are seriously scratchy.

I take it he pulls the mic back because it is set so high that if he actually does belt a word out, it will come out mega distorted? Is that what you are saying?

In my opinion he's attempting to hide the strain of reaching the note. He isn't belting out anything anymore according to all the videos I've watched the past couple of days. But still....sometimes that smooth voice of his does come through and it sounds great. I'm a big fan of DC, I wish he took better care of his voice.

He doesn't smoke, and from what I can tell he's on a great health regimen. Or did you mean that he should avoid the high notes to save it?

In my view Coverdale/Whitesnane had lost it by the 1987 album. Below is a clip of them playing Donnington in 1983 ( the same venue as Download festival). That is 26 years ago. The hardcore fan will tell you that Coverdale was at his best a couple of years earlier than this.

I saw them (Whitesnake) live with Judas Priest a few years ago in a Monster of Rock show, he really sing good but he don't show the beautiful voice he used to had, i was in front row, i don't think he lip-sync...beside is not a rock attitude, i just don't believe he do that.

Part of the Magazine article :

[i]David Coverdale has fiercely denied Joe Lynn Turner’s allegations that the Whitesnake frontman mimes to pre-recorded tapes in concert (see story above), calling Turner’s claims “absolute balderdash”.

Coverdale told Classic Rock: “I have no idea what the hell the daft bugger’s talking about.

“I do not, have not and will not use tapes of my voice to mime in concert. My band and I perform and sing live in concert. Yeah… we’re that fucking good! What a total prick.”

What I am saying is, it doesn't matter what row you are in, if he is singing to tape, you can never tell...it is impossible to tell unless he drops the mic or pulls away too early.

Okay, i understand what you want to say..i just hope he's not, i prefer he sound terrible instead of the lip-sync, because that for me would make him a poser, but i don't believe it

Yes, but I'm also a huge DC fan from way back. There just is no reason why his voice has to be fked up like this. I wonder if he had vocal nodes, or perhaps smoking did him in? Christ...it's not like he's singing the dirty dozen every frickin night.

Did he smoke? I wouldn't be surprised if he smoked in the '70s as just about everyone did, but I don't recall ever hearing that he smoked.

It's probably just normal aging.

I don't think he smoked or drank any more than other contemporaries of his. So maybe it's just how his genetics are?
Some guys the same age - Ian Gillan, for example - seem to look less aged facially, so maybe it IS the natural ageing process.
We all age differently?

MOST singers use compression live, and have for years....no trickery, just evens things out....and as far as "working the mic" it is a technique of knowing how far away from the mic to sing when you are pushing extreme decibels through the diaphagm of the mic....every roadworthy guy does it....watch some live vids of any powerbased singer and he is working the mic....as far as the backing tracks, if he is using tracks for backgrounds I issue a pass, if they are for leads then issue a ticket.....Coverdale had one of those amazing "razors edge" voices forever, and eventually the razor will get ya....he pushed long and hard for 30 years, and the human voice can only handle so much....I have heard him live recently and he is still a great singer, he just has less tools in the tollbox now.....

I had heard that Coverdale was using tapes. However, recent vids suggest that is currently is not. I wonder if he cut it out after it got "uncovered"

Not to change the subject, on a similar note, you guys know anything about Steven Tyler using tapes. Some fans say while he is mostly live, he uses tapes for many of the signature screams: in some cases for years! (Yes I know he is 61. Yes I know they can be brutal on anyone. But let's be honest people! You pay part of the Aerosmith admission to hear Tyler scream. Knowing his trademark screams were not live and legit is a bit unsettling.)

Others say he just has some mic boosting on some songs (like Dream On & Back In The Saddle) and/or help from the on stage keyboardist.

Regarding Coverdale again, I am seeing Whitesnake with Judas Priest in a few weeks. Honestly, I hope he shows some wear on his voice, to hint he is live.

What do you guys know (or think) about either of these guys?

Have a great time, i saw Whitesnake/JP together (with Rata Blanca) was a very good show from both bands that time, altough it was raining so the sound wasn't so good, but was okay...last year i saw Judas Priest and they sound better than ever, much superior that the previous time...hope you enjoy it like i did....Buena Suerte!

I was reading a previous article in that classic rock magazine http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/news ... r-its-war/

"He wouldn’t let it lie! David Coverdale has issued a further response to Joe Lynn Turner’s interview remarks about Cov’s supposed ‘miming’ in concert. “Next he’ll be accusing me of wearing a wig on stage,” the Whitesnake frontman quipped.

Coverdale has released a full statement that reads as follows:

I am shocked, very disappointed and surprised by Mr Turner’s misleading and completely untrue observations he felt it necessary to discuss in a recent interview. Whatever his motives, they are disturbing, to say the least.

I do not ‘mime’ in concert. I never have and I never will."

I was thinking that maybe David can accuse Joe about the wig thing!

I don't know about the past, but I sure hope he (Coverdale, and I guess Tyler too) does not do it now!

I'd rather them tweak the songs (such as key) or avoid difficult parts than lip sync them. Live is the priority. It's ok (at least to me) for it to sound a little different than the album.
