Journey Red Rocks Show Promotion

One of the local radio stations, www.995themountian.com , is giving away tickets to the Red Rocks show today as a part of their Free Ticket Thursday. Incidentally they gave away "Heart" tickets last Thursday. Throughout the day they feature the artist of said ticket giveaway. I received my usual email about this only instead of being on the typical "99.5 The Mountain" "stationary" the entire email was fashioned with the Journey logo from their website and a current picture of the band. At different times throughout the day Journey are featured with stories about the band and their songs. At @ 8:15 the subject was the 1983 Journey Arcade game and which song was featured in the game. There was also a quick recap of Journey's history and a few soundbites of Perry talking about the current state of things. They used his "the divorce is final" quote. He also said 'they have decided to do what they want and I decide to do what I want. And I decide not to do what I don't want. I do not want to work with them again.' This is a paraphrase but what shocked me was hearing such a definitive statement about the chances of him working with Journey again. I think it may have been a quote from a few years ago but it was very direct and specific...something Perry is not known for.

Oddly enough, this radio station would not play Journey until about a year ago. They said their music did not fit in with the "culture" of the station. They were a mix between classic rock with an emphasis on more of a singer-songwriter vibe. Sort of like the 'world class rock' stations but keeping it in the past. Now they play Journey and some other 80's artists that aren't even rock. I am not sure where the station is headed but it is still cool because they do give you the stories, trivia, etc behind the music and the artists.

Are they playing the Revelation tracks or just the dirty dozen?

Still the dirty dozen. I think they are a little conflicted at the moment. They couldn't ignore the resurgence in popularity of those hits but, while they will play new material by their artists, Journey still doesn't fit their ideals. One of my favorite DJs, a guy I followed up and down the dial, is no longer with the station. He is the guy I used to talk to about trying to get Journey played on there, every time somehting new was released. But since he is gone I haven't tried to talk to anyone else.

So, I don't even have to ask about Arrival. Here in L.A., KLOS did a Concert Tailgate party for the Journey/Heart show last year. Departure was their featured album for the day. :shock:

But then again, this is Perry country.

I still believe most areas of the country are still Perry Country. The only Revelation song I heard was After All These Years and it was on a syndicated radio show. I never heard any Generations or Red 13. Arrival got a little attention, Higher Place got some minimal airplay on the big classic rock station...only WITHOUT THE GUITAR SOLO!!! All The Way was only played on the Top 40 countdown. What pissed me off about Higher Place, if you don't have Perry than the one other signature sound that you have is Neal Schon. Why would anyone cut out the "other" voice of Journey?? AND that radio station sponsored the Arrival show at Red Rocks AS THE PETER FRAMPTON Concert!!! Utterly ridiculous.

I was pleased to see that the Mountain was at least talking about Journey in their current formation although the did say Arnel was singing in a Journey cover band when discovered on YouTube. But at least they acknowledge him, somehting never done for Steve A. And the DJs have mentioned his talent say he can really sing. Better than nothing.

I know Journey are getting play somewhere. I even followed all the stations that were adding After All These Years and Faith In The Heartland to their playlists. But locally, on terrestrial radio......squat!!
