Did I mention that I HATE Pearl Jam and Nirvana?

HATE. Pure trash, made for a boring, lazy, unimaginative, unmotivated generation. Garbage.

I can understand the hate for Nirvana, as I too, dislike them immensely.

But Pearl Jam are hella good, same with Soungarden and Alice in Chains.

Just because bands choose to do something other than high-register, melodic vocals, standard-tune riffs, and throwing solos every which way in songs.... doesn't mean they're bad.

I dare you to walk up to Eddie Vedder, and say he can't write. Tell Chris Cornell he can't sing. Tell Jerry Cantrell he can't play.

I call bullshit ten times over.

You can call Bullshit but the mopey music sounds like dogshit to a lot of us, didn't last (fortunately), and hurt our genre greatly.

Sorry, but GRUNGE did not kill "our genre", our "genre" was imploding with stupid lyrics and a tired image and nothing particularly new to offer. It is likely more accurate to say "our genre" led to the creation of of Grunge.

Who said killed? Grunge radio and its supporters bashed Journey, for example, with a passion. I shall forever be seeking revenge.

Sorry, you said "hurt our genre greatly" but I still say "our genre" hurt itself to the point that Grunge could grab hold.

No question...but I'd have rather it worked itself out without the Grunge.

Not sure it would have. Everything is cyclical but I noticed it is far less defined since the fall of Grunge. Used to be every 10 years starting around the 3rd year of a decade there would be a new thing. Grunge didn't make 10 years. The one thing Grunge really did right was it ended fast instead of the humiliating self-parodying, lingering way Melodic Rock did.

In a commercial sense it has. And this time, I didn't say died, I said "ended".

But since it it is cyclical, we still get moments like Daughtry which definately fit the melodic rock vibe. And like Nickleback or not, they have done a lot for the "genre".

I am still talking about what it "pop"ular. When Meldoic Rock was "it", it was everywhere. Radio, Top 40 charts, movies, advertising. And it was all new stuff.

Now there is a case-by-case of Melodic rock in advertising. But in general, the genre is not "pop"ular. Yes, touring is a success, reunions are a success. But new music? Not by most of the successful touring bands. They are banking on nostalgia and that is far different.

For the record I don't know how I feel about their new one. But they were awesome in the 90s. Seeing them in October for the first time, I'm super excited.
