I don't think they'll find an opening act like Daughtry on their next tour. He was a big help on them selling out all 100 shows. I saw them on New Years eve 1989 opening the new Tokyo Dome. They were on fire. Good Times.

The musical intro sounds like a VERY slowed down version of Sambora's vocorder gymnastics on 'Livng on a Prayer'

This stuff was done years ago and Mellencamp & Springsteen did it much better.

Actually have to agree with you. And coming from a big Jovi fan from way back that's saying alot. It pains me to say this, and maybe I've been listening to EM too much, but my gawd he really can't sing anymore. Those vocals and music do absolutely nothing for me. :(

Love Mellencamps early stuff like Authority Song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Po47SNloMBg&feature=fvst And his Lonesome Jubilee tour concert is still up in my top 5 favorite concerts.......he had the whole friggin arena up groovin' on their feet, never seen anything like it! It was a great show! Cherry Bomb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGoQNXWgopg&feature=fvst

They don't have to. Bon Jovi the brand has become bigger than Bon Jovi the band. 200 million dollars made last year from their tour. Market a product right and you can achieve anything.

Touring around central IN (and having a regular gig in Bloomington) we're always privy to some choice Mellencamp stories by production and venue staff....Some are nice and some are not so nice! But he brings it every night, and commands tremendous respect.

I would have LOVED to have been at The Bluebird in Bloomington the week leading up to the first Farm Aid in 1987, when Lou Reed was down at Mellencamp's compound practicing with his band, and popped up for an impromptou and unannounced performance at the Bluebird one night...Lou Reed backed up by Mellencamp's band, and Mel joining Reed onstage for a few tunes. AMAZING that that shit used to happen.

LOL, and not a dime from me. Didn't like their last album either. Numbers, Gunny? You know how much numbers/stats mean to me when it comes to choosing my music. They don't mean squat.

I have to laugh, cuz I was the one spouting off to all my friends about Bon Jovi way before Slippery. I saw this on American Bandstand back in the early 80s (She Don't Know Me) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UySv-l5mNpU and just loved that song and Runaway, ok I admit it was the hair too, back then. Yep, I was beaming when they exploded a few years later with Slippery. :D

Looks like Jon went to the Steve Perry school of finance. He is known as being a very competent businessman.

That would have been cool. That's the thing too, Mellencamp isn't the most stellar vocalist, but he does definitely "bring it", or at least he used to. That concert was stellar. I saw the John (squared) tour - John Mellencamp/John Fogerty - a few years back and he still sounded great (maybe not as much dancing around, this was after his heart attack thing, was stunned when I read how much that guy used to smoke and was still able to sing  )

I've watched a few biographies on him and read lots, he's VERY smart and business minded. Right from the beginning. I was actually quite surprised at how similar the Journey and Jovi stories were. Watch Behind The Music on both. JBJ and SP are VERY similar. Some of the stuff his mom, dad, brothers and friends were saying about Jon in biographies could have easily been said about Perry. And when Jon had his (jump off the merry-go-round/had enough) moment after the back to back Slippery/New Jersey tours and quit the band for years up until 93's Keep The Faith. The rest of Jovi went and did solo stuff until JBJ was ready to re-unite. They knew where the bread was buttered. But then again I don't think Richie has quite the ego Neal has.

I do believe that JBJ and Perry are cut from the same cloth...I think that Jon had a great opportunity to build his own destiny from scratch though, whereas I believe Perry had to mold those around him to best accomodate his ability and persona.

No way!

That's pretty cool. I can't remember where I saw a clip of JBJ on a local cable access show performing "Runaway" before the first record came out. Was that Behind the Music?

I do remember a real early clip on some show, but can't remember what I saw it on either. I am LMAO at this though, I remember watching this way back in 84 on MuchMusic (Canada's version of MTV) just trashing the studio. Ahhh memories. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOTdZC0bRk8

He was one of the first members I believe. He had written Runaway already and was pimping it trying to get on the radio. When It got played finally. He split from Scandal and called the other guys to form Bon Jovi. The orignal recording of Runaway had David Sabo and Hugh McDonald on it as Bon Jovi didn't exist yet.

Wow, that's two Jovi factoids I didn't know, Gunny. Didn't know he played guitar in Scandal and I knew Hugh was on that original Runaway, but didn't know Dave Sabo was. 8)

Daughtry was amazing, however!!!
